Hand brake problem help

  clio
Hi,

I have just replaced a rear caliper on a 172. After fitting all seemed ok apart from the hand brake cable. Offside really tight but ns very loose. Stretched hand brake cable I thought, so I have just replaced both sides tonight with brand new genuine Renault cables. Os still very tight, ns very loose.

I have tried pumping the brakes and pulling the hand brake etc still no joy :-( I had a look at the os caliper and it doesn't appear to be sliding but bit hand brake mechanisms seem to be okay.... Any ideas?
h

Can't adjust the hand brake any further as os side too tight and is basically an imbalance.

Thanks

Richard

Been thinking about this all night I can't think of anyway of that slack coming out of the cable.

Think I need to double check the path of the ns cable.

Any one got any other ideas?

It's going in for mot tomorrow so maybe they'll tell me what is wrong lol

Cheers

Richard

I think I've got to the bottom of the problem I think the new caliper I have fitted is faulty. The caliper arm just doesn't seem right.

I have had a caliper being faulty after replacement cause it was aftermarket shite. Get a second hand one from ren parts for £40. PS great help you had from this thread lol.

Yeah it's been a right pain in the neck lol its such a simple mechanism as well. It looks like the caliper arm is bent or too far forward, which makes it impossible to set correctly at the adjuster.

I bought it from unipart, they take my old one in exchange...

I am hoping they will swap it over for free seeing as it is faulty.

The only other thing it could be is the hand brake cables fitted the wrong way round but I only replaced like for like.

Hopefully this thread helps someone else in the future :)
