Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2's Vs Michelin PS3's

Before you start all shouting at me to use the search bar, I should point out that I have!

People tend to recommend the Goodyear's as a cheaper alternative than than PS3's, but these were older threads when the price difference was quite large, but now the price is within £5 on each tyre so wondering what the current view is

Looking at getting 2 new tyres for the front and Goodyears are coming in it £156, PS3's are £163...so basically the same

The big question I have is....Are the PS3's the better tyre than the GY's when they're the same price?

From what I've read most people seem to say that GY's are just as good, yet slightly longer wearing (or do the PS3's just wear fast?)

Would only be for Road Use (no track days), with quite a bit of country roads which aren't the smoothest

Many Thanks,

James

Just looking at the PS3's, and there seems to be a couple of different versions :

My tyres list 3 different versions, one is obviously different at 83V (Rather than 87W), but what's the difference between the GRNX and non GRNX?

Also, Camskil (which I'd probably order them from), list two different ones :

But I've got no idea what the difference is, description/spec is exactly the same - So I'm guessing the more expensive on is this 'GRNX' version?

I think the F1's are great on the Megane - I had conti 3's and 5's before and thought they were both as pants as each other....

Our of interest have you tried the Goodyears?

On another car yes ;).

There is not much in it to be honest. IME the F1s grip slightly better in the wet and the PS3s seem to last longer. Flip a coin and decide :). I probably will do the same thing come tyre time unless I go for Nankang NS2-Rs or Yoko AD08Rs.

Ive had several sets of both of these tyres and they are pretty similar in terms of performance. I would say I prefer the Goodyear F1 GSD3's to both the asymetrics 2's and PS3's but they are discontinued I think.

Interesting that you say that, I spoke to my local fitters and they don't have Asymmetric 2's, but they do have GSD3's at £85 per corner (fitted and balanced) but reading the reviews on here, they don't seem the best : http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-GSD3.htm

Just goes to show how much of a personal preference a tyre is!

True true... the bad thing about them is they are like magnets for picking up stones, I was constantly having to stop and use a key to pry stones out of the tyre to stop the tick tick tick tick when driving.

Got to laugh, went to order the Goodyears from Camskill and they've taken them off their website!!

Looks like I'll be ordering some PS3's...just deciding between Oponeo and MyTyres (same price)

I would get them from TyreLeader (either the GY's or PS3's) as they are almost £10 cheaper but I could do with them asap, and I hear that they can take a long time to deliver!

Can you still buy GSD3s? One of the best tyres I've tried.

I just want to get hold of some GSD2s but there's nothing 'performance' in valver/Williams OEM size anymore as everything nowadays seems to come on 16s or larger, so the market for 15s just isn't there.

I can confirm that you can still get hold of GSD3s. I had a set of 4 fitted to my 182 a couple of months back in 205/45/16, which you can see in my project thread. Fantastic tyres, had them on many of my previous cars when they were more readily available and find them really good. Bonus for me is that they look awesome too.

I believe they were actually discontinued a fair while ago, but somebody mentioned on the Trophy forum that Goodyear are apparently still making these in certain sizes, which is great news. I ordered mine from Black Circles, and am considering buying another set in case they are no longer available again when I come to replace them in the future.

185/55/15 being the OEM size from memory? As you say not a large range in this size, but if it was me I would be going Yokohama AD08R as they make those in that size. Had a set of AD08s (before they brought out the uprated AD08R) on a 306 GTI, and they were incredible tyres. I'd say the best tyres I have ever had (never tried R888 etc) only downside being that they are a bit pricey.

Correct!

Those sort of track-biased tyres look, er, 'interesting' for driving in the wet... :tonguewink: lol

They are actually very good tyres in the wet! Obviously not as good as a dedicated rain tyre, but I remember buying them partly because of the fact a lot of reviews said they were pretty good in the rain for a semi track day tyre. They replaced a set of Parada Spec 2s at the time, which in comparison were absolute w**k in the wet!

  Listerine & Poledo
Paradas are basically a summer-in-Florida tyre.
Anything less than weather you'll bro-out at on a Miami beach to do lifting, and they do f**k all

I always thought that was most Yokohama tyres TBH  lol, although the AD08R are remarkably rated at a 'B' for wet grip!

They are a fair wedge at over 80 quid a corner, though...

Thought I better update this thread!

Ended up ordering some PS3's from Oponeo, ordered Friday just gone midday....and they arrived Monday late morning!!

I'm bloody impressed tbf, cheaper than anyone in the UK, free postage and I bet they wouldn't (physically couldn't) arrive any sooner...Big thumbs up from me!!

I've used oponeo for all four of my PS3s! Don't think I'd use anywhere for tyres as it's cheap good delivery and are nearly new dot codes too!
