Gearbox linkage boot

Yo,

Changed the gearbox oil today and while I was under there I noticed that the boot which is next to the gear linkage has split. Is this common? Is it a big deal? Didn't appear rusty.

pretty common, ideally should be on there to keep the joint greased and clean. Can't think of a major issue from one being split of missing though
