gear rod, Help

Right ive just put a new engine in my 172 but im having problems with my gears,
when i connect up the gear rod thing the gear stick wont sit centered in the car and it fells like its only going into 3, 4, 5, just wondered if there is a way of doing it

Yes, I do. You have to readjust the position (angle position and length if needed) of the clevis bar.
 
Not sure what guide you are using to do it as most seem to say line it up in 1st or use a measuring device under the gearlevel. The easiest I find to make sure you get all gears is for one person to hold the gearbox selector in neutral while someone moves the gearlever from first into neutral then wiggles it side to side and holds it bang on the middle then tighten the bolt normally works for me.
