Full V6 Running Costs Please?

  SchwepTek™
OK so I have been wanting one for ages.....as do a lot of people but i am interested in knowing ALL of the running costs especially in comparison with 1*2s.

If any V6 owners could give me info on tax, petrol, services and maintenance, etc ,etc that would be great.

Also am I right in thinking you can pick up a ph2 with about 25k miles for around £15k?

Im 25 costs 600 quid to insure with 3 yrs ncb and 3 points!

Tax is 115 I think for 6 months atm.

petrol wise I get about 23mpg avg.

Had its big service done which included the cambelt waterpump etc so oil changes from now on for the next 5 yrs will be cheap!

Tyres: rear I got two mich pilot sport for 200 quid (not much more than a 182 tyre) u just have to know where to look

I wouldnt get one if I was driving it every day: 1 its gonna depreciate like f**k with the miles that on it and 2 u will break it.

Put it this way. I know people on serious money, ie 40+ that baulk at the running costs of a vee. Great cars, but you're paying for the looks and aura, because the performance isn't justified by the running costs. If thats what you want, nothing else will do, nothing else gives that special feeling at that sort of price.

^ Sorry, that's complete bs if ever I heard it !
Someone on 40k + worried about vee running costs, right on

Apart from the aux & cambelt change (the expensive one) servivcing isn't too bad.
Insurance for me is under £700, i'm 27 full ncd no points etc etc.
Tyres - jusr paid out £265 for rears, pilot sports as it's meant to have.

Deb182 (when she's on here) will be able to give you a full rundown as she went from an RB 182 to her LY vee.

not bad for a supercar ;)

  Golf R soon...
I did something similiar to what you might do! Went from 182 to R32.

Car cost me £13.5k

Car tax next year will be the same as the V6 clio, £400 odd.

My insurance is £850 a year. So thats £70 a month.

I do roughly 300 miles a week, work and socialising. Usually put £50-£60 in the car weekly.

I went from a 182 to a Vee then soon to a 172.
Vee is awesome if you can afford to run it get one. Petrol is the main expense tbh. 25mpg ranging to 17 for me. Reset on the m'way gives close to 30. Only concern with the Vee is if something went wrong, may cost alot. Or any bodywork repair. My insurance was £500 more and road tax will be £450 on the new scheme. IF your mileage is minimal get one. I do 5-600 miles a week and its a bit of a ball ache as im always at the PEtrol station!!!

My mates mk2 v6 returns 16mpg!!! you lot must drive it carefully lol

........... yes it will if your redlining it around town all day!!!

I travelled down to FCS this year, slapped it into 6th gear and got 37 mpg all the way,so decent fuel consumption is possible.

I haven't really given running costs much thought, and I seldom read about anyone selling their Vee because they can't afford to keep it going. I do recall complaining about my 172 that it was costing me a fortune for such a wee car.

£40k a year and stuggling with a vee?? I don't earn that and I've had no problems running it!

I've just taxed mine and at the moment it was the same as the 182 (£210) but obviously that will be going up. Minor servicing cost the same as the 182, haven't had to have a major service yet on either so can't comment for that.

Petrol I used to put just over £40 in the 182 every week to week and a half. I fill up just as often on the vee but it costs me £60 instead. I average around 24mpg around town.

Insurance is more obviously - the 182 was £440 at my last renewal then I got the V6 a month later and it went up another £300. Although the year before just before I was 25 the 182 cost £800 to insure, so I'm actually paying less than I was a year ago on the V6. But that's mostly down to my age I guess..

But as long as it's problem free I don't find it much worse than a 182 to run, it's just the petrol really. So far anyway, in the future I'll probably notice when the cambelt service is due and the tax goes up!!

Craig - Can I just ask where you got your rear tyres from, I need to get some very soon and the cheapest I've found so far is £182 each for pilot sports?

Hi Deb, Craig vee is a mark1 so is runnning 17" wheels, therefore quite a bit cheaper than our 18".
