Flat Battery in the Key??

Struggled to lock the car on the remote button on the key. The little red light on the fob was flashing when I was pressing the button but the car wasn't responding and not locking possibly suggesting I still had life int he battery. Then I put the key in the ignition, turned on and then tried to lock it and it worked; but that could have been a coincidence.

Is it a flat battery? I don't want to risk opening the key up and damaging it if I don't have to (have heard horror stories about this!).

Mine was the same then I opened the key and the clicky bit fell off the board, nothing a soldering iron can't fix.
