Fixing corrupt MP4

So my friend had an accident tonight, not his fault, and it was all caught on his dash cam, or so he thought.

The dash cam appears to film lots of 1 minute clips, we have the minute before the accident, but the clip of the accident is corrupt. So essentially I have a reference file and the corrupt file.

I've tried the free online 'demos' to no avail, one claimed to recover footage and showed me some stills to prove it but i highly suspect these stills were actually from the reference video to con me into forking out for the recovery.

Anyone any good with this stuff that could take a look at it?

Cheers
Mike

Ive heard good things about this software:
http://www.videohelp.com/software/Video-Repair-Tool

That said, depending on the nature of the corruption it's entirely possible the file is not recoverable. Will the file open at all? If it plays but the image is just a garbled mess then it's more likely to be recoverable, if it can't even be opened then that's not a good sign.

There are companies that specialise in data recovery like this, but they are expensive and don't guarantee results.

Hope your friend is ok, that's the main thing.

Thanks, the impact was light so I don't think there is any damage to him but the van will need repairing and he's self employed so it'll cost time wise.

The video won't even open in Quicktime, tried vlc too and nothing. I tried the tool you linked to yesterday but nothing :(

I think he's going to talk to the dealership he bought he van from, as they supplied the camera at considerable cost, hopefully they can get the company who make the cams to try and recover it. It's an insurance approved cam too.
