Fitting and removing tyres - damaging?

My dad wants winter tyres (lets not turn this into a winter tyre debate :rasp:) and instead of purchasing a separate set of wheels he is considering having the summers removed and the winters fitted - vice versa in the spring.

Is the harmful to the tyres in anyway?

Nope, plenty of places do it. Some garages will store the summer tyres for you until spring too.

I doubt it for car tires, as long as they're not damaged when taking off/putting on the 2nd time round.

When I chop and change my kart tires they're softer 2nd time round to fitting but as long as they're not damaged by the bead retainer they're fine.
