im no keyboard warrior, tho when a mate of mine seemingly gets ripped off for 2100 sheets im guna have something to say no? any one want to give me a shed load of cash so i can find out what to do off a forum?

some of the cars we are accustomed to: full kevlar body, S2000 engine in a RWD configuration... going supercharged and TBs for 400ish bhp.

a clio 172/182 F4R on ITB's with cams (428's in this case) timed up and mapped properly should do over 200bhp and 170lbs/ft as a MINIMUM, if it doesn't there is a problem somewhere!

why didn't you just tap into the OE loom "piggy backing" your way in and leave the OE ecu to run the dash? seems bizare to remove the oe system!

I never said you were, I said there are keyboard warriors out there.... over reaction there chap, no harm meant on my part!

I dont think he got ripped off, not when in my mind the car is now not ready due to VVT being a required feature to accertain maximum power from this variant of engine (even when cammed)....

When this car is making the pupported 200+bhp on a full Jenvey and standalone setup for £2,100 Including VAT, is he ripped off then? I only ask because as speaking with Nick he is bringing it back so we can have another look into it. I did ask if he is happy after the test drive, if he had said no I would of said leave the car and dont pay me till you are happy!

We are not in the business to rip people off. Frankly, my attitude to this is the companies reputation and class winning cars speaks for itself. And the fact we are going about it and asking for reasons as to why there is a problemn from those that may of seen this before, as well as getting Nick back in straight away to remedy it free of charge only shows this as well!!

Thanks,
Matt

Fred,

Yes you can do that but we always go down the route of removal where we can. Nick did say he wanted a stack dash as he is prepping his car for track use.

Most of the cars we work on have no loom at all, and piggybacking, although may be good practice in this case, from an autoelectrics and motorsport level it is bad practice...

check the cam timing (you'll need the renault ONLY tools for this) as a first step, i'll bet £5 its off

turn the vvt on

map it again

hello 200+

We only took payment up front for the Tbs (1300 inc) Nick paid me the £800 inc. (for supply and fitment iof ECU, mech throttle pedal conversion, TB instalaltion, mapping) after he test drove the car!

Now he has taken it away and driven it further he is not happy, and I am going to remedy it. I know of some tuners who dont answer the phone once money has changed hands, because we have their cars in to fix!!

fair enough then, free of charge mind! id be expecting some money back for the pure amount of time its taken you over the quoted timescale and the fact its still not right, like putting it right for free is even a bonus? im sure itll be fine when its done, but seriously from a reputation point of view youd of found out everything u needed to know before taking the job on

  Lionel Richie
do you need the renault workshop manual on how to check the timing? (serious question, i'm not taking the piss!)

if you need to call me at any point feel free

well done for being honest and willing to sort it, as you say many companies wouldn't care

Adey,

We have done a clio about a week before Nicks, and another of our customer (SiTech Racing) fitted and mapped on in scotland so we knew the areas, the info here has just helped us really.

Some maoney back?? If you can get a TB converson done for less that £1800+VAT go for it :)

The time taken has been down to us being UNABLE TO OPERATE THE for nearly 3 weeks due to an MOT bay being installed!

We also had another company fabriate the mech pedal only to find they did a NAFF job which we redid. We kept nick in the loop along the way, and like I said above, some companies wouldent even answer the fone to an unhappy customer, let alone chase down their views on a forum and call them!

Matt

Fred, we have autodata, in your expereince are the manuals a better bet?

Thanks, I have never had an uphappy customer yet, and certianly dont want to start! The lucky think with us we are on a MAHOOSIVE trading estate (ex airfield) so we have our own private test track so customers test their cars thoroughly before taking them away. An 8pm collection and heavy rain limited us to maybe not testing the car as much as I/Nick should of done!

Cheers,
Matt

Danny,

Now this is why forums are the best resource out there! People wanting to help :)

Nick will be dropping the car to us Tuesday evening, so if your up for popping over and casting your eye over it, more than happy to accomodate with tea, biscuits and plenty of good humour :)

Cheers,
Matt

Fred/Danny,

How good of autodata lol We had a glanza turbo engine we had built and were mapping, it actually showed the dizzy rotating the wrong way, hence my 'distrust' of it in general! It is pretty good for ecu pindata though...

I'll see what i can do, prepping a car for a trip to the ring and leaving at 4am thursday, should be able to get over though

Another area of interest for me personally on this particualr engine is the fuel system, theres no return, and the fuel pump relay is powered along with the coilpack so its not ECU modulated... I assume that it is self modulating in tank? I would of thought it hard to accurately maintain rail pressure over 3 meters of fuel hose...

However, it could be a useful pump for some motorsport applications....

Danny, you can reach us on 01373 30 30 33, give us a call when your around and we'll arrange something.

(or just pop in...)

thanks again,
Matt

regulator is built into the sender inside the tank (phs1's were different)

3.5bar pressure at the rail off the top of my head

There's a regulator in the pump carrier. It works fine on cars over 250bhp on the standard pump so i dont think it's an issue.

Yeah defo regulated somewhere (they use the same rails between the phases by the looks of things, the mouding is there for the reg and return take offs!), but lets say we suddenly hit 80% duty on a seriously built supercharged engine on large injectors, I assume a 'proper' fuel system would be installed in this case as the rail will certainly drop in pressure with a situation such as that... just something I was thinking about the other day...

depends on the boost you're running really. Copes fine with low boost conversions (0.5bar). For anything more, yes i'd want to run a traditional setup with a return line and boost compensation vac/pressure line to the reg

Just reading over this thread and mtech seem to be bending over backwards to help so hats off to them, I know many other garages that wouldn't give 2 s***s!!

I drove and have the 172 cup that was pulling away from this last night. To be fair i was not impressed with the cars performance and a few other issues. I would be proper pissed off. but like a few people have already said they are willing to try and put the car right which is the decent thing to do but more than alot of the cossie places i have been too.

From reading this it is clear that something is not right with this car, you cannot fault them for searching for information on a forum like this. As the knowledge base on here is fantastic. Fair play to them for sorting the car out. With customer service like that, i would let them work on my car.

Will watch this space to see how it turns out :)

Nick was too tight to go to a Renault specialist!!! He did not want to spend the money!! Lesson lernt me thinks. Good on Mtech for putting in the effort to sort this out!:approve:

But he was happy to spend a decent amount of money on a digital Dash....

Any how, car doesnt seem right. Before it went in and when it left.

Sure it will get sorted, plenty of good advice in this thread.

Yep seems you were happy when you picked it up and then without giving them a chance to sort it your on here slating them.

Give them a chance dude i'm sure they'll sort it as they sound and look like a professional outfit.

i wanst slating them :S , i was asking questions as what was the problem was , i spoke to them the next day after getting the car back , how have i slated them in anyway in this thread ?????

Chaps, to clarify I don't think Nick meant any harm against us, before I ran M-Tech I too used different tuners on my own cars, and I would been exactly the same as him. Like others have said though, the place I used woudnt even answer the phone to me after I had the car back! (although on the plus side this was about 6 years ago, and they have now dissapered completely, as we actually recently had a car brought to us that had a 4k engine built by them only to have a cam tensioner fail and destroy the valve train about 200 miles later!)

Rest assured chaps we will get it sorted. I am going to put it all down to VVT being critical on this engine. I assumed (which I know is never a good thing to do!) that the VVT on this engine would operate in a similar fashion as on the ST170 engine. On the ST, its PWM controlled, and we usually find that the cam 'rests' in its natural optimum poisition for maximum power, and that it is retarded slightly at low speed (which in fact is manily just for emissions)

Lesson learned, and can't wait to see what power we can make, as it will give me the confidence to offer this exact same conversion again and again.

Thanks for everyones help and advice, and the very mature mannor this (my part) f**k up has been handled.

Cheers,
Matt
