Fancy alloy alternator setup

  TrackCar & F30 330d
I thought you needed another bracket. but maybe not.

I think you can get the Cup package for around £200 tho so its £100 dearer

looks nice. but is it any better than a cup setup or just aesthetically pleasing

Yes, Colin and I work together, he specialises in chassis development, fabrication and CNC machining; I do the engines/electronics etc.

Pure Motorsport's aim was to produce a kit that stood on it's own merit basically, it's scratch designed rather than a copy of the RS kit. I haven't personally seen the RS kit, so I've no idea what it's like, but I know how much effort went into getting this one right!

Looks like quality motorsport components.
I assume the weight saving isn't including all the redundant aircon stuff either?

Hello all,
This kit was designed to make it easy to remove the aircon and to save lots of roating mass at the same time. You can use the standard 172 alternator so no need to source a new/used cup one. You don't need any other parts to complete the kit - it has everything you need to fit including cyl head plugs for camshaft locking access.
We have no links with KTec, this kit has been designed and developed independently.
The Cup set up is of course cheaper if you ingnore having to buy a new alternator but it won't save you over 1kg in rotational mass or look this good!! (BTW that 1kg doesn't include the aircon compressor).
The total weight saving of over 16kg does include all of the aircon system.

When I got my clio I told myself that I wasnt going to do anything to it, but it is bits of kit like this that make me so tempted to start having a play with it!!

^^ Stripping weight is fun + noticable power and often cheap too mate

(and removing airco is also another belt not running along !)

Cat amongst the pigeon time.

Like Chris Harris said when testing a GT3 RS - saving 20kg ish on deleting the air con, just learn to drive faster!

Yeah it is true that improving your driving will mean you have more fun/be faster on track.

But the way i have seen it is if your stripping stuff out of a clio then do it properly which is why my 182 is 920kg not the lightest clio in the world i know. But i still have to remove the AC pump, PAS, electric windows, get some Polly windows and some lighter wheels then i will be able to get it to 850-860kg

I've got it that light because of taking out practly every little bracket and bits and bobs out that are not needed for the car to function properly.

Still got loads to come out :)

You should come, i think theres about 25 cars going. a few off hear and a load of Shed Motorsport. About 3 182's and a few 197's :)

You can if you go with an electric PAS pump relocated elsewhere. Otherwise you need a dry rack - DCi IIRC correctly, but can't remember 100%

  TrackCar & F30 330d
Could you not just fill the rack with grease so it stays lubed?

I havnt had a look at it so dont know if that is actually possiable.

You can keep the standard 172 rack no problem. At least this is what the guys at pure motorsport have done on their racecar. I spoke to them about this, and they said they have kept the existing rack, and just put a small section of pipe between the two ports to essentially seal the oil in there.
