F.a.o Daniel - Ford Orion

It's got a blue oval on the front.

Daniel probably got more attention in that red orion than any other car.

They're calming down now. Some nice ones have fetched £12/1300 lately.
I got £1850 for mine last summer and it needed a bit of work.

Sound investment though. As are most 80/90's Fords.

My friends one was in fast ford, its off the road atm for some engine work, i didn't really like it at first but i do now, its different to your normal escort (same lad also has a rs1600i, series 1 rs turbo, mk3 escort van, sapphire cosworth and probably some other stuff i haven't kept up with)

So many small touches on this that make it unique

The ever increasing value of them says otherwise?

How is a 1.6 Orion in anyway shape or form cool? It certainly doesn't deserve a cult following like the mk1/2 escorts, Cosworths, Mk1 RS, RS2000, RS turbo and so and so forth.

Look at it the f**king colour, the shape, the design, etc. It has no Motorsport history or heritage other than having a ford badge which is why people are buying into it, thinking that in 5/10years they will worth 10x the amount or something.

Again it's only an opinion but in my eyes it's a piece of s**t and I wouldn't have it. I understand you like them but it's different horses for different courses i suppose.

I don't particularly like them, they just have sentimental value to me. They were 'the' car back when I was 15-18.

But your point about it having a blue oval not automatically making it a cool car is rubbished by the fact they still fetch good money. I appreciate you think they're s**t but the fact they are going up in value tells me that a lot of people don't.

Last week an F reg 1.3 ghia fiesta (the least desireable fiesta ever??) pretty tidy but not mint, sold for a few quid under £2,200.

Same with Capri's, a few years ago they were worth peanuts, now even 1.3 rust buckets that need scrapping are fetching a grand,
if it's even remotely road worthy you're looking at £1500 minimum.

Wish the same could be said for a 172!! I'd be selling in a shot if I could get £1500 for mine lol.

Mad isn't it.
A 172/182 in any guise is better at everything than an XR2, XR3, Orion etc. Yet by comparison, is worth f**k all!

It's madness and I love it. There was an XR2 rusty piece of s**t shell sold on ebay for 1500 the other week.

It's the cars that people stop and stare at. They ask about them in petrol stations even when they're s**t!

It'll be mad in ten years time if people see 172's etc in the same way as they do old Fords!

Was that a Mk3 ?

Quite!
When I was growing up the family across the street had a daughter who had this F reg red Fiesta, think it would have been Mk2? I remember seeing it and thinking it was so cool. Not that I'd own one now, I think that era of car missed my generation by a couple of years so I can see why others get nostalgic about them.

1.3 became the 1.4 when the 1.6 became lean burn. Around '86 I had a hemi mk2 XR2 with a DFT carb and a later lean burn with the vacuum second choke carb. Saw plenty of mixing and matching from Ford while I was in the XROC so you can never be completely sure what you've got. Saw a few hemi 1.6's in xr2's around late 1985 with the lean burns dizzy and later master cylinder instead of the 3d ignition setup.

Looking at the Mk2 above, makes me want one.

Went on Autotrader for Mk2 Fiestas. All of them are XR2s and the price ffs!!! Does look cool as f**k mind you. But knocking on the doors of £6k most of them.
