Enigine cut out, HELP!!!!

  Ph2 FF 172
Driving into work this morning my car just cut out. I managed to pull into the side of the road and sat for a minute before starting it up again. About 4 miles down the road, I wasn't caining it by any stretch of the imagination, the rev limiter came on as did the amber engine warning light? I pulled over again and switched off waited for a minute, started it up again and it cut out straight away and kept doing it about four or five times. Eventually started up and I managed to crawl the extra few miles to work. The warning light is still on and the rev limiter keeps coming on before the engine dies.

Any ideas what this might be guys?

It could be several different things - the easiest thing to do is take it to a renault dealership / independant specialist and have it diagnosed whilst the warning light is still on. If the light flashes on and off intermitently it will make it harder to trace the fault. If the light is on it means the ECU has recorded the problem making it easier to detect. It will be something simple like the TDC sensor, lambda sensor, throttle body or a coolant temp sensor.

A quick fix would be to disconnect the battery and leave it for 10 minutes - reconnect it and this should clear the fault. Take it to a specialist if the problem persists
