Emma's Dirty Derv Project. Dci 65 Content

So I decided that I needed a cheap diesel runaround now my commute to work increased and my dislike of putting miles on The Cup.

Anyway after a few weeks of looking about I'd decided I wanted either a 106, a Saxo or a Clio.

Tbh with the money I was looking to spend I never thought I'd get a Clio, then Daniel had a Dci65 for sale, I was about to go and view it and someone else snapped it up. So my hunt continued.

I decided to wait until after Xmas then as there was bound to be people selling and not many people buying. I found a Clio Dci65 that had been relisted on eBay not too far away from me.

Anyways a chucked in a cheeky last seconds bid and I won!!!

It was basically a rubbish advert. The woman talked more about "the amazing CD player" then the actual car, which was just the standard head unit. Its basically been to the moon and back with 147500 miles, been side swiped at some point and had creases down either side of the rear quarter panels, 4 new tyres, 6 months mot and tax air con and electric windows. I had no idea about the service history but once I looked at the service book it's got nearly a full service history.

So off I went to collect it, now I wasn't expecting a huge amount when I picked it up due to the price I paid for it but my god it was DISCUSTING. I felt sick driving it home due to the sheer amount of grime and dirt. When I got home my hand was black from the steering wheel. I was not impressed.

Thankfully it seems to run pretty sweet but there is a few problems I need to sort out. The heater fan doesn't work, going to try the resistor fix this week and take the fan out and give it a clean hopefully that will sort it, one of the fog lights is cracked, so I've got a new one on the way, and the suspension is awful. It's so crashy. I know it's not on genuine Renault springs so that might be the cause, but the car is going to have a good check over also this week so I'll find out then.

Anyway I've rambled on enough, here are some before and after photos after my big clean today.

And finally of course with The Cup which is a bit minging but hopefully will be fully detailed by the end of the week

So my plans for The Dirty Derv is a service next month and try not to modify it lol. It's by no means perfect inside or outside but it's certainly now bearable to drive to and from work and I can tuck The Cup up in the garage.

Thanks for reading and comments always welcome :)

They are cracking little cars, I would have one quite happily as my next daily.

Sounds like you go a bargain then :)

Not sure on the colour, in some pics it looks nice, in others it just looks like the first piss of the morning.

That was rancid. Like properly. Bet it was seriously rewarding to clean.

It's the sort of colour I'm never sure on either, 106 Gti's can look good in a similar colour, but I just can't decide if you can make this work..

That's alright as a daily runner. Was grim before but looks half decent once cleaned up.

Good buy great little cars love my dci 100...

Proper minging inside that! is it a nappy in the door pocket??, thought mine was bad full of mud and hay till i saw that

Ive had it for nearly a week and was still using the The Cup it was that horrid. I dislike it a little less now it doesn't smell and is clean. Still got work on the steering wheel to do though. It's that caked in dirt I can't get it all off.

Im just glad I didn't go in her house when I went to get it. Can you imagine :dead:

Jesus wept.. Ive just looked at the pics before you cleaned it and damn... Do some people have no shame? Damn.. I wouldn't DREAM of selling a car on in that state.. Ha. Can't believe that like...

Does every DCi sound like a tractor?

Turbo tractor ftw :)

I think it was the state of it that caused it it be relisted. Went for nearly £800 the first time round. Tbh if I'd bid that and turned up and saw it I'd of walked away too.

And yep, sounds like a tractor lol. And you certainly feel no turbo lol. I'm going to miss The Cup.

by no means can you feel the turbo, but when you get them going, pulls like a train.!!

£60 gets me 600 odd miles if im taking it easy. even planting it everywhere still returns silly miles

thanks I'm not sure I'm enjoying it and that it's 'a fantastic drive' though.

I'm used to driving my Cup so a 65bhp diesel is very slowwwwwwwwwww lol

So had The Dirty Derv in bits today trying to sort the heater fan.

I ordered a resistor from eBay for £4 and we had a go at fixing the heater resistor ourselves. We failed!!!

I wasn't convinced it was the resistor that had failed as bridging points 1 and 5 didn't kick the fans into life. So after we had soldered in a new resistor and saw that it didn't work out came the fan. Was easy to take out but a little fiddly. Turned it on and hey presto the fan didn't spin.

So took the fan to pieces and gave the bushes a clean with a toothbrush and tried again and it span all be it a little slowly. So we put it all back together started it up and to our disappointment no bloody fan again.

So after 5 minutes or so my glamourous assistant ;) thought we should try the bridge trick again and the heaters kicked into life!!!

So not only had the heater resistor gone, the fan had stopped working too lol.

Dissapointed that we couldn't fix the resistor but I'll send it off to one of those eBay fix things and hopefully I'll then have fully working heaters!!!!!

Nice job cleaning that up Emma.
How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? (And I haven't missed it!)

  1.2 16v
Compared to a 1.2 8v/16v IMO it's got boost and is much better! Haha, can definitely feel the difference between the two, so can the wallet!

30 tax is perfect. 30 fuel a week/2weeks is perfect. Sounding like a truck is... Meh.

oh without a doubt it's so much ccheaper to run then The Cup.

I will miss the acceleration, the seats and the xenons and the fact it's awesome fun to drive. But it's still going to be tucked up in the garage ready to come out to play lol.

The Derv is just a cheap runaround.

So first tank of diesel used. Slightly disappointed with the figures tbh

Overall still nearly double what I was getting from The Cup so I can't be too disappointed I guess.

Had to top up with oil a couple of times since I brought it home. Think I'll do an oil and filter change and assess the level and see if I've got a leak somewhere, or does it burn oil? Tbh I only put maybe 1ltr in first time as it t had literally nothing in it when I checked it so could be normal?

That mpg figure does seem a bit low. On a decent run I've manage 53mpg in my 1.2 16v. I'm pretty sure I've seen people get into the high 70s in dci's. Are those mostly motorway miles or town driving?

Bit of both really. It was left idling for a fair while so I think that's what eaten the diesel. Since I've filled up the mpg is already above 52mpg so hopefully it will just keep going up and up and it mostly just sits on the motorway between 65-70.

  Whichever has fuel
When did it last have a good service? With diesels I always find a set of plugs, fuel filter, air filter and some good quality oil always help massively with performance and fuel consumption.

Or it's placebo! lol

It's not been serviced for 36k lol. Which is the whole time the scrud owned it. Full service history upto then including a cambelt change.

A good service is on my list of things to do.

Remap helps a lot on these for economy, and it totally transforms the way it drives too.

I was quite impressed at the difference on Mike Woodfords when I drove it again after he mapped it having driven it before.
