Eddy's 172 Toy

Hi all not been a member long but thought i would post up a project thread. Let you lot see whats happening and i like to see peoples thoughts on things too. I know there are a lot of helpful guys on here who can point me in the right direction with things too.

Anyway Bought my 2nd 172 last month as i wanted a change from the 306 GTi6 scene. last car what i still have now is a 306 3.0l v6  Love the car but too much hassle maintaining it and keeping it on the road!
Owned a 172 a few year back but didnt end up keeping it long but then again i dont keep things long anyway haha.
So i got myself an 02 plate 172 in black with 72k miles on the clock. Had no tax or test and get it for a bargain at £950 i would say. The car was totally standard with a few bits and bobs what needed doing for the MOT.

Had a snapped spring, front pads were just about gone and both ball joints needed replacing. Sorted all that straight away, fitted some 40mm springs for the time being and gave it a good clean. Here with my v6 306

So time to spend some money on it... 1st off i got an RSTuner, RON 98 over run map, Stainless decat, New lambdas and a stainless exhaust. Exhaust came off a mates old phase1 and at the time i didnt think there would be any difference but the hangers missed the bushes by about 2" and stuck out the back a good way so that wasnt staying on.

20130207_180228_zpsf59da24f.jpg

Had mate cut 2" off the front of the middle section and now the whole exhaust sits nice and snug.

Then last weekend i was up at a mates when we herd someone skid then a big smash! looked out the window and seen a car fly off down the street so we went out to see what was going on to find someone had smashed into the front of my car and drove off!!! Called the police and they did not seem interested in the slightest!

Didnt wast no time the next day, stripped it down to see what the damage was, I was lucky, wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. A/C rad saved my heater rad so just pulled all the air con out as there is no need for it to be honest, never gets hot enough in this country anyway haha. Front cross member was bent in, managed to pull it out a good way, not all the way but its not too bad, Everything seems to line up ok bar the drivers headlight, i can fit my finger tip between the headlight and the bonnet

While the car was off the road i got a few other bits and bobs in too:

Flocked dash, center console, A pillars and steering column cover - Fitted yesterday
Sparco Circuit bucket seat (driver seat)
Sparco Evo bucket seat (passenger seat)
Battery relocation kit - Fitted yesterday
Also took the BMC CDA filter off the 306 - Fitted before the smash!

Thats as far as i have got so far. On the look out for some subframes and side mounts for the seats, Ordered a full braided brake line with with wilwood bias valve to run through the car.
Booked up for croft in June and i have been thinking of going up to knockhill next month too so need to find a set of track wheels next... Will update once i get a bit more done.

Enjoy :)

Braided lines finally turned up today! Took a while bet they came. Just waiting on the bias turning up then once i get subframes and side mounts i can work on getting everything stripped and fitted.

Got a few issues i need to get sorted since swapping my dash!

* My rear demister button knocks out all my dash lights
* Passenger window switch on the drivers door kills all the electrics when i press it. Driver window works fine and passenger window switch works fine too
* When i rev the car after 2k the speedo goes up to between 20 & 30mph when standing still
* When driving above 4k revs the speedo shoots round to 160mph no matter what gear i am in

Any ideas anyone?

Also the new exhaust sounds good and with the RON 98 overrun map B)

Where did you get that dash from! Jelaous of it :( Ive been wanting on for a while now, got my A pillars and handbrake cover, want a dash like this to finish it up :)

  Clio 4 :) 306GTI-6
Hey eddy dash looks good, I'm on the 6 forum too :) I also traded the 6 for a clio however I am gonna get another one. Hope ur well

I still have my v6. Think i am sacking off the clio as a track car as i dont think its quick enough so i have started stripping the V6 now to use that and juat going to keep the clio as a road car :)

Overrun map is alright. Normal 95 petrol isnt as good on the overrun as V power. Need to pull my finger out and get some work done to this

After hopping and changing on what car i was going to use i decided to go with the 306 for track and clio for road use. Stripped the 306 interior and made up a decat to suit my middle section but after running it for about 20-30mins it boiled all its water and blew a pipe off. too much work needs putting into the 306 to get it sorted so looks like it will be the clio for road and track after all.

Just collected subframes and ordered side mounts for the sparco seats i have so they should be going in at the weekend and i will update from there.

My V6 306 and the 172

Little update on this. Not had much time to get things done with work but managed to get seats in and strip most of it. Seats sit a bit high on the Sparco subframes so i am going to weld in some seat bars instead so i can get them nice and low. Also fitted my TRS tow strap and suede steering wheel i had lying around but its a bit small i think at 300mm.

Bought a set of 7x OZ F1 alloys what i am away to collect tomorrow. Will be spraying them black over the weekend. Going to try fit my aero catches and and brake lines if my bias valve turns up. Hoping to get up to knockhill next weekend if my mate gets his 205 ready

After collecting the OZ wheels on Friday i got a bit spare time Saturday morning to spray them. Wasn't sure what color to go for but decided on satin black. I did buy a set of 7 but no need for them so just going to sell the 3 spare ones i have.
Yesterday i was giving my mate a hand getting his 205 ready for its mot tomorrow then fitted my aero catches. Cars starting to come on well now, just my brake lines to fit and carpets and roof liner to pull out. Hopefully make knockhill still at the weekend if the weather clears up.

Thanks lads. Need new rear reg sorting and need to decide on colour of the cage. Red or black? Been swaying more towards black but i just cant decide?

Has a volt gauge lying around and an engine start button so decided i may aswell make use of them and fit them where the dash dim switch was.

Also received some OZ. Racing stickers for my wheels and got rid of my fogs on the front, Just need to measure up what size air ducts i need to feed to the front brakes for cooling. Removed the Renault Sport badge off the boot lid. I was going to spray it black and put it back on but decided i liked it off. Then was bored so decided to remove the rear seat mounts and get the hole cutter out before i painted the inside ready for the cage fitting at the weekend lol

Rear cage came Thursday so spent all day Saturday fitting and stripping the reast of the carpets and stuff out then sprayed the cage and rear inside of the car. Quite happy with the outcome. Just waiting on some LUKE 3" harnesses coming at the cup spoiler turning up then all that will be left to do is fit the braided lines i have.
Was quite windy this morning and a tile come off my neighbours house and damaged my bonnet :( He has offered to pay for the repair if its not too expensive but if it will be too much his house insurance should cover it :) Tempted to jet a quote to repair the bonnet and just buy a fibreglass bonnet but finding prices of £200 for a fibreglass bonnet is a bit steep! Carbon would be nice tho...

Haha just what came with the wheels. There not too bad really ;) not sure what to go for tyre wise. I love the yoko parafa spec.2s what will be my best option as there cheap, last ages and are good on track or go for A048s what are unreal for grip on road and track but dont last 5 minutes. Ran both tyres on my old 306.

Think there's a recent thread on some Nankangs (don't laugh) as they've just released some 'track focused' tyres

S'posed to be alright on the road and think they're about £70 a corner maybe? Might be worth looking into

Personally I'd be going for some 888's or AD08's, currently running R1R's and not a fan really

For 1 A048 i can just about afford a full set of paradas. The tyres will be mostley used on the road tho as i dont plan to do many track days this year, saving up abit cash to spend on the car but will more than likely be after the summer now before i do any major work. Not thought on what to do yet but i will dee what funds are available when the time comes :)

Not updated this in a little while. Been trying not to spend any money on it at the minute but just cant help myself haha. Clio cup spoiler came the other week so had that painted and fitted. Looks a lot better than standard. Also got some air ducts for the fogs too, just need to fit them. Off to pic up my carbon bonnet in the morning along with some new harnesses too.
Been thinking of what rout to go down engine wise? Boost, N/A or bike engine ;) decisions decisions???

Well gave the bonnet a bit of a jet was this morning to get as much lacquer off as i could as the bonnet is suffering from really bad lacquer peel! Away too get a price on getting it took back and re lacquered. also got a pic of the new LUKE seat belts fitted :)
