***ECU Fault.. Help Needed ASAP***

  RS6+ & 40d MSport X5
Put my car in for a new gearbox and clutch which was fitted no problem..

As the owner of the garage is a mate he used the car a couple of times after it was repaired..

He parked it up and the next morning went to start it and it never turned over..

Had the computer on it but couldnt download any faults..

So got a diagnostics guy out and he found that there was power going to the ECU but no power running thru it (ecu isnt powering up)

What could the problem be AND what would be the implications of renewing the ECU ie costs and other parts?

Gaz :(

good cheap car this ;) should have run when you had the chance ;)

on a more helpful note... im guessing it could have been unplugged (depending on how the box was removed) so possible bent pin on the connector?

The car was running fine after the box was replaced mate.. ie on a test drive!!

BTW i wont be paying for anything except the box n clutch lol

Theres some relays next to the battery check them plus the fuses everything goes back to there. and strip the loom back and trace the wire back and take a reading somewhere else

might be worth getting a 2nd opinion auto electrican wise, if there is one thing i know about auto electricians they are lazy lol.

basically sends a voltage back though to the ECU that it can cope with and blows it. as said above i would perhaps get a second opinion

whats hassle would a new ECU be to source and how much?

Also will i need to do anything else when/if i renew?

depends you can get unlock ECUs just plug and plug. dont think you can use second hand ones if so you need to get them unlocked to iirc

Wouldnt have a clue. if you were going to get one from renault (locked one) theres nothng on there so you would proberly have to have everything loaded on

you really should get a 2nd opinion though or maybe speak to a few specialists, if you can find someone breaking a ph2 172 you need the engine ecu, bcm, decoded ring and key chip and its plug and play.

10.89 volts is low, sounds like your battery is flat to me, a good battery will show over 12v, when running it will be 14-14.4v

it could be a sticking starter motor, could also be the key, take the key apart and make sure the battery inside is seated correctly, they sometimes come loose from the 'claw' holding them in

disconnect the battery for an hour and see how you go then, sometimes key issues can be resolved by doing this, and whilst its off put it on charge, 10.89v is very low, has it been sat for months ?

i wouldnt have thought it was the ECU, they are rarely faulty

agreed 10.8 volts is very low if this at the batt terminals , have you connected a known good battery in parallel and tried starting it.

the battery is showing just over 14v lads.. according to reno 10.8v is what it should be producing after the relay!

Right.. found the problem...

As the 172 is a grey import it has the immobiliser key pad (Sigma) BUT i dont have the code!!

Is there anyway to reset it?

I tucked the key pad away when i got the car and totally forgot about it!!

if it was that easy mate it would be pointless having it, you need a good alarm specialist
