Diff interchangeability

I have a cup that's not long spat its circlip. It's got a new circlip but I feel like I'm running on borrowed time. I've sourced another cup box with the intention of fitting the bolt on mod available on ebay.

The box ideally needs stripping to fit this, so I was wondering if a later diff will fit? Out of a later 172/182 box, Rather than modding the old one. I can't find any pics of where the speedo drive is driven from so maybe a combination of the two duffs may work...

You can fit the plate with the box in situ, its a fairly straight forward job and does away with the circlip. Thats what i did, save removing the gearbox which is a pain of a job.

How did you keep the swarf from entering the box?

Simple. Put a rag inside the box around the circumference of the driveshaft opening/diff face and smear grease on the rag. This way and swarf will stick to the rag and won't enter the box. :up:
