Detailing help (Basics)

  1.2 16v Clio
K so i have a black mk2 clio, and around my area there are so many nice black cars that literally reflect everything around them.

Just wondering what i should get for a decent price to give my car a decent shine and bring out the colour a bit. Dad has a buffer if thats any use but as for the products i dont really know what i should be doing for the best results. I usually just give it a thorough clean and a polish and leave it at that, hear sealants? and wax's are appropriate aswell so just wondered if anyone could recommend some products/info on what to do to give my car a real "WoW" Shine without spending a s**t load of money.

Mini list of steps would be nice, with the equipment needed.

Cheers.

Hi mate... have a look here: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=148366
Has some really good info about all the various stages and techniques involved.

With regards to products, it really does depend on what you want to spend, but for a beginner, a good start would be to go for these:

Clay: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/meguiars-quik-clay-kit-50g-clay-/prod_226.html . This will help prepare your paint for polishing leaving it silky smooth.

Polish: What do you use at the minute? AutoGlym Super Resin Polish is a good start and can be applyed by hand. You can find it in Halfords where I think they are still doing 3 for 2 on all Car cleaning products.

Sealant: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/chemical-guys-blitz-spray-sealant/prod_227.html . This will add a good amount of protection for your paint and you can add as many layers as you wish.

Wax: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/r222-carnauba-wax/prod_357.html . This should give you a good 'wet-look' finish with lots of reflections.

And get some good applicators and microfibre cloths, something like these:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/accessories/sonus-der-wunder-applicators-pkg/2/prod_136.html
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/microfibre-cloths/eurow-shag-pile-double-density-towels/prod_436.html

Bit of a rushed reply... I'm now on my way out the door to work, but I'm sure someone else will be along soon with some good advise too.
Hope this helps.

Right, i went down to halfords and saw all sorts of Autoglym stuff on offer lol but really dont know what im looking for, i know the super resin polish is decent but what are the other Autoglym products like in terms of quality? and what order do i use them in? Clean>Polish>Sealant>Wax? :)

if your looking at all autoglym (which is good but not the best) you will need :
-Bodywork shampoo
-Super resin Polish
-Extra gloss protection
-Then the wax

Use them in that order and youll be fine

  Bumder With A Buffer
You dont HAVE to use wax though. Many people just wash, SRP and EGP and that gives good results, okay the protection might not be the same as with a wax but still.

Just something to think about... that way you can buy Autoglym Shampoo, Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss Protection from Halfrauds and take advantage of the 3 for 2 offer :)

^Yep, that will sort you out good and proper, and it's not too expensive either :)

I was very surprised after I used SRP for the first time :)
