Dephaser pulley...Advice please.

  Megane Coupe 2.0 16v VVT
Hi, Excuse me for being cheeky about asking for help so soon after joining but if this problem finally gets fixed, I'll be over the moon!

I bought my 2002 Megane Coupe 2.0 16v VVT a year ago on April 13th.
Ever since i've had it, Its made the noise as i never clocked on to the guy switching it off again before it getting up to tempature. I've been slagged by numerous people about the taxi noise it makes, And generally the embarresment sitting at traffic lights drowning out the sound of Octavia TDi's.

Its drove fine the whole time, Glasgow to London back to Glasgow, Glasgow to Blackpool and back, Glasgow to Aberdeen and back.
Only real problem i've had was the coilpacks which im grateful for.
I've tried Hydraulic Lifter fluid, several engine flushes and oil changes and a good few diagnostic fee's which have turned up nothing.

Within 5 minutes of joining here, i found a thread with this video..

It sounds identical, The noise isnt there at first, When the engine is up to tempature, It starts and disappears at around 2k revs, then only returns around 1500 revs and on idle.

Im now excited with the fact that it could not be fixed if it is that.

My question, After this long story is, How much should i be looking to pay, What should be changed and is there any particular specialist in Glasgow or nearby who is reasonable and could do this.

Sorry for the long and winded story but this noise has haunted me for the last 12 months and 30,000 miles :(

Thanks for the useful threads you have all previously made, Its really helped me out.

I've learnt more on here in an Hour than i have in 12 months on a Coupe related forum. You all seem genuinely intersted in helping each other and are very informative, And for that i have alot of respect.

Thanks

John :D

Yes had mine done on my 172. New pulley needed, around £120 ish, then new cambelt time....... So £500 ish, to have new pulley + cambelt/Aux kit fitted?

Not sure about Scottish specialists, but RS murray are in Leeds.

It'll never actually fail, but they do sound aweful i agree!

Might not be quite that much, but it is pretty much mechanically the same engine. I know the pulley was that much, then just going off the trader section in here. The cambelt has to come off to change the pulley....

General consensus is the water pump rarely gives any problems.

Sorry, I wasnt slagging them off...Just when it comes to this engine there is more known on here. The coupe forums mostly talk about the F7R.

My apologies.

Fair point. I know you meant that, that's what the ;) was for.

I wanted that engine but couldn't find one anywhere :(

  BMW M135i
Got to be careful leaving it really too as they have been known to completely fail several times. Which results in a top end rebuild at the very least!

First case I can think of off the top of my head. Sometimes they last sometimes they don't.

Goign by the threads of the guy who fixed that particular car, It wasnt the de-phser pulley that went, It was the exhaust pulley or something similar.

I read it on a few threads while searching for advice.:)

I looked at threads and they all say £113 is the cheapest for a new one and not to buy second hand, Gutted. I only paid £1100 for the car aswell.
