Dephaser on the way out? (video)

Car just came back from the garage, I had the cambelt done, but forget to get the dephaser done at the same time. After listening to it, I think the dephaser might be on the way out. Can anyone take a listen and give me their opinion? If it is, back to the garage Monday :(

Sounds like dephaser. Who did the work? Can't believe they didn't check for wear in the dephaser when they did it. Any self respecting mechanic would have done so. Makes you question the rest of the work done! Hope they used proper tools.
It's belts off again for the dephaser to be replaced and re-timed up.

Could the sound be from the timing being out? As I don't think it was like it before.
He will probably do the dephaser free, if it is the problem and he didn't check it before. But you are right, should of been checked really. Saves doing the same job twice.

Where did you take this to be done? I doubt the sounds from timing, no, as often it'll just s**t itself when you fire it up or run OK. Mine was well out, and ran fairly well. I'm guessing waterpump wasn't done either though, hope they checked this for leaks/wear.

The cambelt and tensionsers was done, not waterpump or dephaser. Garage was HM motors in Cullompton. Have a relative that has know them for years. Have used them before, and always well priced and fast. This is the only time I have had a problem. If you can call it a problem. It might be my fault as well, as I sent it in for something else and asked to have the cambelt done at the same time, due to the car sitting for a year, and wasn't sure when it was last done.
Also quick question. It is still ok to drive right? As I need to go to ATS tomorrow to have my new PS3's fitted, and need the car till Monday.

Quick note, gonna get the oil and filter changed tomorrow, as the oil is 18k miles old. Only put 1000 miles on the car since I got it. And was going through the old service/repair docs from previous owner (to check if dephaser was done), and the last oil change was 18k miles ago. Could this be the noise? Guess only way to find out is an oil flush and change and a long run to get it circulated.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the garage you've used haven't dealt with RenaultSport Clios much and this is what happens when you ultimately don't.

From a specialist to sort (if it is the dephaser pulley) it'll cost you £550/650 as to get to it the cambelt has to come off anyway.

I'd meant more by letting it get to temperature and checking whether it rattles to s**t. This shows wear, no? Pretty noticeable and i doubt that sort of sound has come right away.

As above re; the not familiar with knowing F4R's. You can't really hold them hostage if you never specified the work it needs done, 95% of garages would assume it simply wouldn't need it until it starts rattling.

Its part and parcel of the belt change now it seems. Do the belts, do the dephaser. Hand in hand. Assuming it'll be 'okay' is more at your peril.

This is a direct case of living and learning.

Can't really fault the garage as the dephaser isn't a part that shows up on any service schedule.

I'd be asking CS for ideas on local Renault specialist. Dan in Glastonbury isn't a million miles away but I'm sure there are others.

Surely when it was taken in they should have heard that it wasn't right? Or afterwards when they must have had it running upto temp?
I guess if you don't know if they're meant to sound like that you wouldn't know, specialists all the way. To be fair I was worried mine didn't sound right even after having the work done, but found out they are just noisy.

Also, I thought there was a method of checking the dephaser for wear upon replacement? Swear Mick said when mine was done that he'd be able to tell when it came to removal how bad it was as I told him it was rattling. I could be wrong, i'm not a specialist myself which I'm sure is very clear.
