Dead engine mounts? 1st gear graunch

  Ph.1 172, FD3S RX-7
Giving it some stick in 1st (even at half throttle) brings a nasty vibratey graunching sound from the engine bay. Doesn't sound like det or ignition breakup, and only happens in first under reasonable load past 4k revs.

A bit of digging and reading suggests shagged engine mounts, does this sound likely? 70k on a ph1 172.

It doesn't lose any power, but it sounds terrible.

How many mounts to the chassis are there? I've only worked on RWD cars before.

3 mounts, one is basically the cam belt cover, the other 2 are on the gearbox, one under the battery and the other from the back of the box to the subframe, this is the normal one that dies... see how much u can rock the engine back and forth by hand... if its more than 10 -15 mm then the dog bone mount ( the one from the back of the box to the sub frame) is probably one

Nice one guys, there's definitely a lot of wiggle there.

Can you get it off just by jacking up the engine?
