Dci turbo and intercooler?

  ST170
Just wondered what sort the 80 bhp version has and what sort of boost it runs? What sort of gains can be had and is it worth getting a bigger turbo?

Cheers

A thin FMIC infront of the radiator.

runs about 1.25 bar boost.

gains form a bigger or better intercooler (ie the 100 one is more efficient by 17%) would allow for more power when mapped.

a different turbo would again allow for more power when mapped but stock turbo can give so much that realy injectros are the week issue could make about 130 with the stock turbo if we had big injectors to use but they are expensive to have made and none has bother they push the pump to 2000bar and open the window as big as they can and get at best 130hp wth a big turbo.

plus stock turbo can slip the clutch if its mapped to make loads of torque.

a new turbo fuel pump and injectors and the limit realy what the other bit can take, gearbox would be the week point realy the engine are very strong

So basically, upgraded intercooler is the best bet to start with.

No one has bothered making bigger injectors but if they did the best sort of power out of the standard turbo would be 130bhp or could more be possible?

A bigger turbo and injectors (if available) would push this figure even higher? Of course an upgraded clutch/gearbox would be needed though.

Am I right in thinking a new Micra dci is the same engine/intercooler/turbo? Just thinking it could make an entertaining sleeper (and a few grand cheaper too!)

Intercooler is fine realy best decide how much you want to spend a remap the big thing wll see about 110hp depends how hard they map and torque limit due to the clutch.

130hp is about a clean limit might be capable of more none has tried I'd think 145 might be possible with some smoke but you'd need good injectors. with n exhaust less restrictive and intake and bigger intercooler maybe 5~10more.

137 was the level max one owner could get with abigger exhaust gt15 from a BMW320d and intake plus tunning box on the pump and lots of mapping but it ran out of fuel the pump woulnd't make the pressure and flow rates wanted for more power that was 1.6 bar though as well and it reved to 6k.

gearbox shoudl be ok if not absued its not that bad its the clutch which needs upgrading not an issue realy as uprated ones exist.

yep micra is the same.

if you want more power best start with another engine get a 2.0 PD or the 1.9 PD engine and with remaps etc 200hp is easy enough 300hp has been proven with other bits plus the box is much stronger. the ecu can be made stand alone for simplicity ad the stock wiring loom power the other stuff.

I've though about it before the new bigger engine is the better idea.

the 1.9 TDI from the older clios etc can make 130hp with just a reamp on the rare 110hp version and it bolts straight in plus injectors shols be easier to sort etc.

130 bhp and a good wedge of torque should make a pretty nippy car for starters.

Cheers for the advice so far!
