Dci engine suddenly went really loud and camshaft eml on

I drove home 20 miles, gave it some down a slip road to join a main road and then turned off the main road onto a 30mph road and could hear a loud ticking / knocking noise.

I realised this was my car which has always been really smooth and quiet, especially for a dci.

If i dip the clutch it iant as loud but the engine sounds rough.

Along woth this, the eml light has came on with a P0340 code which is camshaft position sensor.

If it was just a sensor, it wouldnt make such a loud noise so i know something serious is up, but not sure what.

Based on the mininal description above, does anyone have an idea what it could be?

Timing belt was changed 2 weeks ago.

Timing slipped? Bottom end gone? Something else?

Massive thanks

Most likely reason is the timing is slightly out.

Only quick fix worth trying is checking the sensor is plugged in correctly.

Sensor is in properly mate. Its ran perfect for 2 weeks which makes it all even stranger. Its still running, just making the horrific loud noise.
