could a failing battery cause...

...the electrical fault indicator light to go on and car going into limp mode?
i've finally got some time off to investigate further why this light has gone on and not allowed my car to start without the electronic control relay switch being manually operated.
car has been working fine since the electronic control relay has been operating manually via a switch however these past cold days has completely wiped out the battery and it no longer starts. there is now no power within it to start the car.
