Connect2 iPod always charging

I have just fitted a connect2 iPod connection (via cd changer port) and it works well including charging my iPod.
The iPod still charges when the car is turned off (is this how it should be and can this be redeemed somehow?
The issue I have is that I would like to just leave the iPod connected all the time but don't want it to drain the car.

Can't imagine iPod drain would be sufficient enough to drain battery, but you could always identify constant supply to control box then reroute to an ignition feed (prob cig is closest), but I'd check with connects2 if that would void the warranty on the box if it's not designed to be switched
