Con1981's 172 dog

  172
Finally finished my boot install. Pretty happy with it although I possibly should have hidden the amp to make it a bit more subtle.

And the postman dropped off these very boring mintex discs. Nothing amazing but essential and lack of funds this month means these were value for month. Unfortunately not the Brembo's I wanted.

Discs fitted just need them to bed in

Finally got round to replacing my rear exhaust bracket. This was a pain in the arse as the captive nut inside the box section sheared off

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429963513.486180.jpg

Here's the little blighter!

So in went a m8 rivet nut. I have to say I love these!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429963544.125043.jpg

And one if the hanger back in place. I was a little over eager with the angler grinder when chopping the nut out so I'll probably replace the hanger with a new one in the future. Let's see how the polly bush goes.

Next up. Get them alloys to the powder coaters once pay day comes around

Been awhile since I've updated this thread. The 172 dog began to make a raspy blowy sound. On closer inspection I noticed that my centre section was blowing right where the pipe is welded into the centre silencer. A bodge of gun gum and some resistant tape was put in place however this made no difference at all. So I replaced the centre section today. My bodge job had also blown.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433018056.178371.jpg

So new centre now on. Ecp klarius exhausts are a bad fit! I struggled for ages trying to get the dam thing straight and hidden.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433018075.116448.jpg

This was the best I could get it. I think I'm going to have to possible manufacture another exhaust bracket/ hanger to get it totally hidden.

Well I'm still waiting for my father in law to powder coat my spare set of wheels.

In the mean time I bought these
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1434133329.579477.jpg

And did this

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1434133349.665084.jpg

Which turned out like this

It's plastidip. The colour is more in ya face than I had expected! It doesn't look bad but I gave to say up close it's no substitute for a fresh set from the powder coaters. Will more than do though until I get the second set off. They're all prepped and ready to go!

So with the hot weather which has now disappeared I decided to regass my aircon with one of those DIY halfrauds kits. As I was gassing it one of the pipes burst. The bolt holding the pipe to the compressor was missing. Here is the offending pipe.

I sourced a replacement off here. Big thank you to stevem42 my aircon is now working and the pipe is now secured so no more rubbing and split pipes

Had today off work today and as it was nice this morning I decided to paint my inlet and fuel guard. I'm not certain though whether this is too much black with the engine cover on

Been a little while since I updated this. And I have to be honest I've just been enjoying the driving experience!

Well my second set of alloys finally came back from the powder coaters. I've been getting then done on the sly sui they only cost me for the shot blasting.

Any way here are the results

Tires have arrived today. Really pleased with how these look. Can't wait to get them fitted this weekend. I've gone with Syron race 1's (the semi slicks didn't seem practical with winter just round the corner). These are made by/for keskin and seem to get some decent reviews on other forums.

Any way here's a few boring tire pics

Alloys are now on and I have to say pretty pleased with the results. Only issue I've had is matching the centre caps. The wife is better at painting than me so she had taken over trying to match the colour

Next up these 10mm spacers will go on the back once my abs sensor for my o/s rear turns up. No point in putting them on yet and then having to dismantle it all again

Liking the gold wheels mate, really look nice with the black. How are you finding the tyres?

They've only just gone on today. Initial impressions are they seem really sticky. They didn't take a massive amount of balancing either. Once I get a few hundred miles under my belt on these I'll be able to tell better. My commute to work involves both motor way and b roads so I should be able to report back how they
manage by next week. At under a 150 notes for four I'm not expecting continental or rainsport performance but we will see. I'll let you know how I get on

That would be great please. They get really good reviews for budget tyres so might be worth a punt.

those tyres look very similar tread pattern to my pirelli pzeros be intrested to hear what they are like :)

Purchased these off wozza 182.,

Really surprised as to how much wider 16mm spacers have made it. It's not quite filling the arches but gives enough poke. Haven't had a chance to have a proper drive yet to see how it changes the handling. So we will wait and see

Rear spacers fitted and centre caps finally painted to match the clout of the wheels told it was Aztec gold but couldn't get it matched. A bit of trial and error resulted in this

Well then fellas I said I'd update you on the tyres. I've been running with no abs so this has been a real test for them. I have to say they are extremely quiet and when they get some heat in them they get quite sticky. In the rain as well they have given me more confidence than what I had on before. The only thing I worry about with these is how long they will last but well have to wait and see. To be honest though of rather have a tyre that grips well and wears out quick than a tyre that lay for ever and puts me on a ditch.

Mini update. So my bullets were looking a bit rough and having changed the wheel colour these shabby items needed a bit of sprucing up.

Bullets painted. I know the colour match isn't brill but in real life it don't look that bad

Ok so I have a couple of little updates fatty kit fitted. Initially I had an annoying resonance but that was sorted by cutting the pipe down. The one if bought was 5cm longer.

Pipe too long!

Note right length.

So being bored I decided to have a play with paint affects and water on my engine cover. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the outcome

@jamesycc once you have your base colour and its dry. Spray it with water. Then using one or two other colours spray the item from right down do that got just dusting the top level. Keep the rattle can parralel to the item you painting so your just supplying a light mist. Do it from one side then the other. Leave to dry and laquer
