Comprehensive backup?

I've had a new pc for 2 weeks now and this morning the software needed restoring (fingers crossed it was only a software fault), so had to start from scratch.

I didn't lose anything but is there any way of backing up a PC that means I don't have to go through all the agro of re-installing software etc and all the little things like customising firefox or itunes playlists, it takes hours!

Anything like this built into windows 7?

I would recommend Symantec Ghost... setup your base installation, create your 'Ghost' image of the system, and save it away. If anything goes belly up then restore the 'Ghost' image and you are back to your base setup.
