Clio 182 Cup....the PARTS the MILEAGE the COST!

  182 Cup Racing Blue
I have a clio 182 cup in racing blue and its coming up to 35,000 miles on a 2005 reg. It is one of the cleanest examples I have ever seen and it is driven with absolute respect by me and only me. It has never been on a track day or driven really hard. It is serviced every year without question of mileage or cost.
Since being a very careful owner I thought I would bring the below parts list to everyone's attention since owning the car. It is still a newish car with very low miles and the below is pretty shocking to say the least. All below parts have been fitted and are on the car now. All are genuine new renault parts.
I have spent a few pennies on this car.....will I ever see a return on it when I come to sell it!!! who knows!! but surely I now have one of the newest engines and gearboxes on any standard 182's out there. The new gearbox was fitted today by the way!! I am unsure whether I will buy a french hot hatch again due to the money I have spent on it! lovely car to drive.....perhaps german I think next.....!

Thoughts and anyone else have similar expensive stories about their 182/172?? cheers!!

I've driven my RB like a hooligan and spend plenty but to be honest I have the opposite view to you in some ways. I'll still spend whatever is needed on the car, but will drive it like it was designed to be driven every time :)

Saying that though I thought my exhaust, cat, cambelt service, insurance, tax and MOT (twice!) within 3 months was a costly effort, but you seem to have suffered even worse than that :)

  182 Cup
And to be fair you've probably only got yourself to blame for the stupidly expensive front splitter.

sounds like you bought a dog, im on my second rs and thrashed them both within an inch of there life and most thats broke was rear shock 40 quid. thats how strong these cars are if cared fo.

I do look after my car really well....detailed every other week....garaged when not in use. It runs like a new car now and is amazing as it just got so many new parts! They just seem to be built not to last!

My 182 Cup

Bought on 10k for £10k 3/2006
Needed an engine temperature sensor (done under warranty)

12k service (Reno 9/2008)

24k service at 22k miles (Birchdown 8/2008)

Front discs and pads for 1st MOT (done by me for £50)

72k service at 27k miles (Birchdown 10/2009)

Passed it's MOT yesterday with nothing needed
Full set of PE2's fitted by NW Performance

The gearstick gaitor holder has broken and the steering wheel 'melted' a little but it has been totally bomb-proof ! It been up and down the country on work and pleasure and never missed a beat.

Best car l have owned by a mile :)

I've had a few Renault Sports (if you include the Williams) and so far I'm all good.

The Williams never had a major fail, i.e. engine, gearbox etc. The most costly repair in 3 years was the alternator tbh.

Had a 172 for a year and that was a goodun' imo - felt rock f**king solid, devestated it got written off. It was 5 years old and on 34k when I got it and 45k when w/o nothing went on it and I thrashed that car f**king hard. Probably the hardest I've ever driven a car.

Had the Trophy for 8 months and touch wood no problems as yet - bar the alignment I've just had to have done.

So in 5 years, 3 cars and 40k miles I'm ok. In your case it's either unlucky or you're doing something wrong which you think is correct to cause problems. All my cars run better after a thrash btw - how hard and how much of the revs do you use?

i agree jamie, ya got to use them properly, i had a seat ibiza gti and used to thrash it and do loads of miles to work but as soon as i got another car and it wasnt getting used that much things started to f**k up. im seriously thinking about getting a williams so ya might get asked for some advice, lol
ps are you a moderator on the williams forum?

Surely most of that was done under warranty, like the wiper motor/ecu bracket. And the head gasket. Presume these went within 3 years.

The rest just seems like normal wear and tear and servicing plus you being unlucky with the box.

  Nothing at the mo :(
i got my car serviced yesterday.. apart from the service just needs a new CV boot and a sensor.. bish bash bosh

thought it was too much of a coincidence, lol just the usual williams 1 and make it mint. jobs a gooden.

Mine cost me f**k all besides consumables. It had issues that were fixed under warranty but, mechanically nothing of note went wrong that I had to pay for. I battered the s**t out of mine on track, went on massive road trips around Europe. Did 140mph border runs with the engine near the limiter for miles on end, washed it once a year and serviced it as per book.

IMO all of the above = OP pwnt :(
