Clio 172 track build

Purchased a little go cart to build as a track (race) only car. After completing a year of sprints in a jaguar xkr with more than enough power was sick of little clios keeping up with me over a lap. If you cant beat em jion em I say.

Test drove a crx, a mr2, a mini and by my criteria the[emoji79] factor the clio win hands down.

The other very important fact was i could make her very light and there was not too much electrinic bs like my Jag. After all quick lap times are made in corners and braking.

She came with a few goodies and wasnt a std 172. Bilstien coilovers, ktec engine mounts, front strut mounts and exhaust. (Dam they wernt pms gear but still good)

Added some other clio p**n.
Jms inlet manifold
Brembo 4 pots on the front
Whiteline ARB.

Time for a track day with some very dodgy tires used a product called octopus grip that really stank to refresh the tires.

With a car that was not tuned and crap tires was amazed to be within 6 seconds of my jag. It was so much fun in the 172 even spining a couple of times!!

Definitely. Interested to hear how the build develops after remap etc.
(You said not tuned so I'm presuming it hasn't been mapped yet)

Getting some catcams with upgraded springs, installing a 182 manifold that has carbon ceramic coating and a decat with a dyno tune in the next few weeks will post dyno result

Time to start shedding some weight in preperation for the roll cage, race seat, harneses and other saftey items to go in for log booking and racing.

Stripped out all seats, carpet (that was super heavy) rubber stuff, plastic stuff ect ect. Got the grinder oit and all unnesesary brakets are now removed. Filled up a whole trailer of bits.

Thanks to the guides used resistors to bypass error signals from the now removed airbag.

Luckily I work for a gas company so dry ice not a problem. 10kg dry ice pallets and afternoon with a screwdriver and a hammer and disgusting sound deadening gone. I work for a french company so totally understand the sound deadening on the "roof" as it would have kept some guy in job. There would have been 15kg of that black sticky crap in the car. Thank you dry ice.

Just an update on where she is now. With everything removed cleaned the shell then filled holes with silver tape and painter her silver as that was the easiest using 2 cans of spray paint.

Shes ended up fairly nice as i couldnt be bothered with taping up and masking. (Its a race car not a show car)

Still a little work to do on the wiring at the front. Im not going to go to crazy there as any problem caused by cutting too many wires will be a pain in the arse.

Upgraded my licence from a speed licence(sprint events) to a race licence. Also picked up the control tyres. Yokohama 205/50/15 advan 050s the maximum width for under 2 lt cars. They look so cool. Will use tyres to lower the car to the minimum 100mm at the front and have a 2 deg rake from rear to front. I have a scoda front thing(its not a splitter) and will make a front splitter and undertray from carbon fibre as being a front wheel drive im guessing I will need all the front grip i can get.(nothing worse than too much understeer)

Still to do fit front bumper with push in bolts. Then off for new door card set, rollcage and saftey gear, cams and a tune. After all this is done will sort the geometry out. Thanks Timotec

Good stuff. Hopefully after the engine mods the car will be around 195bhp/ton? Looking forward to the results from the map.

Few little more jobs today. Put on th e removable front bumper attachments, installed some air ducts in the fog lights to connect to the front brakes, aluminium taped up all the holes ive made and changed the oil. Wot a pain in the arse getting to the dip stick with a jms induction kit.

Quick update.

Car lowered to an appropriate level. Less than 1/2 a shoe can fit.

Wheel stud kit fitted. Wheel bolts are a total pain in the arse.

Lexan rear quarter windows in. Dont know the weight savings do know they look s**t hot.

Camber bolts fitted ready for track setup

While waiting for my cage and cams and otger fast bits to be finished I thought some renault yellow to the bumper would add some speed. (Doesnt seem to be helping jolian palmer at the moment though)

Will look great against the silver.

disater strikes.

at 5.30 in the morning left for phillip island for the track day, filled up with fuel. About 5km down the road pulled over to check straps were tight on the trailor.

Petrol pissing out like a shower, clearly a fuel tank issue of some sort.

Took the car back to the mechanics will be fixed by monday evening as will be properly racing at Phillip Island in IPRA vic series next Friday Sat and sunday.

Racing with no shakedown in a new car thats gonna be interesting.

The end compression ratio will be 11:1. With speaking to my engine builder using E85 this should be the highest "safe" compression ratio running E85 given the possible variability in ratio ethanol to petrol and possible pre ignition
