Clicky clutch pedal

  Arctic Blue 182

Hi everyone.

Had my 182 a couple of months now, and like my old Mk1 172 there is a small click every now and again as I lift my foot off the clutch after changing gear or neutraling it when coming to a stop. It doesnt do it everytime. Its right at the top, way past the biting point, just as your foot comes off the clutch pedal.

Thought it was a fault with my old 172, so took it to Reno and they said it was supposed to be like that. If it was supposed to be normal, why didnt it do it everytime? I certainly didnt expect it on my 182.

Also it doesnt happen on my sisters Mk1 172 nor is it apparent on my friends Cup.

Anyone else come across this?

I have the exact same thing on my 1.2 16v, yea as you say, its just as I lift my foot off the clutch. I dont know what it is tho!

sounds like the self adjuster to me.. sometimes if the teeth dont meet up it can sometimes slip (usually when there is play in the pedal) this sometimes results in a clicking noise as the teeth rub over each other. I had one of the teeth break away from mine, ended up having to have a complete new clutch pedal & adjuster put in.

Isnt there a plastic clutch ratchet behind the pedal (shaped like a quarter circle with little teeth on the edge)? I had an escort which used to click when I pressed/depressed the clutch pedal due to wear on the ratchet. Dont know whether renault use this in their clutch pedal assembly design, but its the only thing I can think of.

Sounds like you know what youre talking about rockport. Is it worth taking it back to the dealer for them to sort it or could I do it myself if I know what Im looking for?

Actually, I think when I took my old 172 in, Im sure he mentioned the self adjuster.

Its just annoying when it happens.

same here

TBH Faz182 i was lucky as the clicking on mine only started after they fitting my new clutch pedal. The clicking started 4 - 5 months after so was covered by parts warrenty. Tho they confirmed my thoughts when they told me the pedal hadnt been seated right - causing the teeth to slip of the ratchet making a click as the rachet was springing back...

It got so bad on mine that i used to sometimes press down the clutch pedal down and it would slip of the ratched completely taking all the tension out of the cable making my foot almost go through the floor (16v clutch is quite heavy compared with 172/182) so needs alot more force.

I would take it back to the dealer fella, its such a b**ch job its not worth the hassel IMHO. If left it will just get worse.

I keep reading 182 threads with various glitches and if mine hasnt got it already it soon develops it...

Now waiting for clutch to start clicking...

Tangents (almost) on this topic...

I feel the "ABS self-check" through the accelerator pedal when first pulling off (wahey!) in the 182, but apparently this is entirely normal. Its a small single vibration, then doesnt happen again until next start the car up:)

Get an exhaust like on mine. Youll never notice it. I aint sure if mine does it and im sure i wouldnt be able to hear it if it did.

Yep, agree. Friend of mine has a Cup and she always seems to either rev the tits off it or stall it when setting off. So I had a go. I either revved the tits off it or stalled it!!!!

Very very twitchy throttle on them Cups. Normal apparently. So difficult to match the revs when setting off. Totally different to any other Clio Sport.

i find the clutch biting point hard to feel on the cup as well. you get used to it. i still have the odd day though when im tired where ive stalled it a few times.

never heard this click on mine or ever had a complaint about it at work. if your worried book it in but i would suggest roadtesting it with a techy to demonstrate the noise.

JAY, Im off next week, might book it in at Lambs, so if your working there keep your eyes open for it.

Can you just ask at the service desk to take technician out in it?

I have had the exact same problem - I took the car into renault and they found a small plastic clip going through a bearing in the clutch pedal assembly had snapped. They changed this and the clicking has stopped - I dont think the pedal has been put back on correctly though as the car has now developed a different click so the car is goin in again next week - the joys of motoring!!!

yep i think i got the same problem too - strangely it only does it when ive left the car then get back in it and move away in first - then doesnt do it until i leave the car again - weird! - is this likely to be the ratchet thingy? only had the thing a couple of days dont want to take it back already as its a pain!

the click every so often could be the pedal adjuster going up to the next tooth as it takes the slack out of the cable

I had mine fixed today at last - you will not believe what it was - it has taken four trips to renault and about 7000 miles of my use to work out what it was - The rivets holding the chrome pedal plate onto the clutch pedal arm where not seated right - the guy in renault agreed when i showed him (at last) and he drilled the rivets out and fitted new ones - clicky clutch is no more!!!!!!!!!!
