check emissions message??

  1.6 Dynamique s
I bought a 55 reg clio dynamique S a few weeks ago and have had no problems so far.
Today after a few hours of driving a message has come up saying ' Check Emissions' also the toxic fume filter system warning light has come on.

Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks in advance

Think it means a coil/spark plug has gone, if this is the case make sure they replace all four.

Will be covered under the warranty if you have one?

unfortunately dont have warranty as bought car from auction. Any idea how much this will cost?

I thought the check emissions message may have been caused by low engine oil.

No when they both come on it means coil/spark plug. Happened to me on my old 1.4.

What are syptoms of the car i.e. what does the engine sound look like when its on if it shakes allot then it is a coil/spark plug.

Not to sure what the cost is to be honest can go upto £40.00 each (4 in a clio) that is the highest i was ever quoted but warranty paid for it.

Will it be spark plugs/coil packs if it's on the Mk3. Could mean an entirely different thing, what does your manual say about it?

There is no shaking at all while idle but have noticed when just driving off sometimes it does shake. Thought that may be due to over reving as im trying to get use to the clutch.

So it is definately both the coil and spark plugs that need replacing?

Is it still ok to drive it in meantime?

Could be a lambda fault, don't just go replacing things, get it checked at a garage with a code reader. It should be fine to keep driving, if it gets worse then get it checked asap.

I wouldnt advise driving it, an i am not to sure what are the details of your car and i will see what i can find for you? :approve: e.g. mk etc

Take it to renault and get them to put a new camshaft sensor in and reprogram the ecu. Very common problem on the later k4ms

Its 55 reg Renault Clio Dynamique S 1.6, 3 door. Not sure what mark but its the newest shape (the shape after the car in your pic)

Thanks!

Not really if you buy the sensor and fit it yourself, theres a solution on it but you will be charged for it.

MK3 as Beefy said then lol i will have a look, have you looked in the manual? Wont say the exact fault.

It would be best to take it to a Renault garage so they can plug it in an they will be able to tell you what it is. This will be your best option.

Im a complete novice with this car!

Just got rid of a polo because i was having endless problems i hope this clio will not give me the same trouble!

Thanks for that, will take it to renault on Monday. Hopefully they wont charge alot for diagnosing the fault.

Thanks again

I cant find anything at all on it sorry, there are a few lads on here that work for renault so they may help. An i think renault will charge a fare bit :S. Good luck with it, an let us all know what it was for future ref and how you get on. :approve:

Hi Sara, Ive a Mk3 1.4 and the last one I had before this gave the same problem. Renault replaced my coil pack AND lambda sensor but thankfully for me it was under warranty. Lambda sensors arent cheap Im afraid. Its safe to drive for now but the car will use a lot more fuel than normal and will also have a rough/lumpy idle. Best bet is to take the car to either Renault or a Renault specialist like Rentech if theres one near you. Hope this helps :D

Hi, I called the RAC today and they have done a diagnostic. It is the camshaft sensor that needs to be replaced. Code is: P0010
Any idea how much this will be?

Was thinking of trying to get the part myself maybe from Eurocar parts and then finding someone to do it or maybe just going to Renault

Any ideas?

There only about £15 from renault and are dead easy to fit. (by removing no 1 ignition coil and one 10mm bolt holding it in) then it will need to be reprogrammed really.

Just thought i would update you guys.
Managed to get Camshaft sensor from Renault was £38. Managed to fit it myself with some help from my bro- pretty simple really.
Check emissions message and toxic fume filter system is still on. Think probably just a case of having to get a diagnostic to switch these off.
Car seems to be running better now anyway
