Cheap NAS storage

Im looking for some good NAS storage that is cheap, and doesnt require client software installing or need some proprietry filesystem format....Does any one have any recommendations? I was looking at the Buffalo linkstations?

we have a couple of buffalo terastations here and have no problems with them, can recommend buffalo kit.
