Can anyone tell me the difference?

  clio 197
Hey guys, can anyone tell me the difference between the 172/182 F4r 732 and the 197/200 F4r 830 engine? and also would the gearbox off a 197 fit a 172/182. I know that I would need to change the linkages, only reason I ask is that I have a spare 197 box and I have just bought a 172 with the engine and gear box broken as a little project, any info would be great.

Block is different on the 1*2 to the 197. Head is also different on the 197. Cambelt drives the water pump on the 197 motor but 1*2 is driven by an auxiliary belt.
197 box won't fit a 1*2 block either I'm afraid.

You could always find a 197 block and re-block the 1*2 engine so you can fit a 197 box though I suppose. The 1*2 head will bolt straight on, you just need to use the 197 cambelt setup.

Thanks for the info, I think I may aswell stick with the 172 engine. I would expect I'll have to change the engine loom and ecu aswel If I went for the 197 set up. I'll take the engine out over the weekend and have a look at what's going on.
