Cambelt quote!!!

  RB clio 182
Just made a call to my local dealer for a quote for a cambelt change and a 72000 mile service and they wanted £1256 from me and the car for 2 days!!!! Are they having a laugh?!!!

On that note does anybody want to buy a kidney from me? £1300 ovno!!!

you'll have change from £400 at K-Tec down here.

EDIT: for cambelt and aux belt, not the service.

  Audi TT 3.2
had mine done a k-tec and it was around £450 for belts changed and a 12k service!
and it took them about 4hours! they were spot on!

ktec quoted me £600-odd just for belts. asked why that was (renault came in at only a shade more) and they said it was standard price.

was only after i'd cancelled the booking with them and gone with someone else that somebody realised i was being quoted for a 182 with CC! even though theyd had the car in that day for other work.

made me laugh!

Just had mine done by the main dealer originally quoted £1193 and after some quibbling got down to £880 inclusive with pretensioners etc plus service they even threw in tracking and balancing WOW eventually cost £869. Looked at other places offering belt changes for alot cheaper but if you wanted genuine parts the price came back up on a level par just for the timing and auxilery belts. But this Service is the last Renault dealer stamp going in the book for all the next ones will be looking at JMS / Rentech and Ktec if they do a service.
The price you pay for that Main Dealer Stamp........ but should get you a decent price if you sell it on as the person who buys the car will see Renault stamps as they may not be aware who JMS / Rentech or Ktec are!

Renault dealership prices are ridiculous, i got a similar quote when i was looking at 182's. Which dealership quoted you that?

£869 is still expensive though, Beaten down or not

Agree it is still expensive but it's the final dealer stamp and just wanted to make sure the renault stamp was there for that service, was looking to change car but I like not having to pay out monthly for a car any more as its been paid off for a while now. So maybe I'll just put the money aside and then one day in my dreams get that turbo conversion or maybe not!

  Dodgy one
Had mine done the other month at RS Murray £570 for both belts, tentioners etc, Started sounding a bit rough one day so took it in Sharpish

Its worth bearing in mind that the really cheap quotes you hear of people getting i.e sub £400 do not include the aux belt kit, and in some cases not even the aux belt, and are non genunine parts. You really want a genuine cambelt kit and auxbelt kit, £500 from a specialist, just over £600 at a main dealer if you negotiate.

Gates kit is the same as genuine. And includes end plugs which you dont get from renault in the kit

Not true, I payed 360 at birchdown for the cambelt kit, aux belt, tensioners, water pump and coolant change, bear in mind mines a cup though so its automatically less.

Birchdown FTW

Exactly, its also cheaper, you won't find main dealers using Gates kits though so they are always going to be more expensive. All im saying is your not always comparing like for like :D

Alex I disagree a little with you there.

My local delaer uses gates kits, still came back at stupid money. Got it done with the renault belts by rentech for under £400 including aux belts and tensioners

i had mine done last month at RenTech, and it was £550 ren gen belts and aux belts and labour.

As already mentioned, booked labour time is lower on a Cup as you dont have to remove millions of componants to get to the belts!

Most non genuine belt kits use exactly the same items as the renault parts, only the box is different ;)
