Cambelt advice Please!

  Celica and Raptor.
Hi.
I just bought my First Ph1 172 rs defo an upgrade from my Saxo Vtr and I Love it:).
Ive just clocked 76,000 and I know the cambelt should be done at about 75,000 or every 5 years.
I have a recipt of a cambelt change at about 40,000 in 2005!
I have a slight little whining at about 2,000 and 2,500 revs is this the tensioner or water pump etc?

Im thinking of getting a cambelt kit and aux belt fitted soon, What would you do?

Also if so does anyone knowof a decent garage around the southwest, Ive seen in a few threads "Carlton-exmouth" are they any good?

Thanks for any Advice:).

its every 72K or 5yrs (which ever's sooner)

carlton are very good (so are all the other specialists dotted all over the place!)

i'd have the aux idler looked at first, and then change the cambelt next year

Thanks very much mate.
Do you think the aux idler is making the little whining then?

Thanks again.

the idler (in my experience) is the first thing to start making a noise normally, but TBH if that needs changing you'll have to chuck a full aux belt kit on (£110 approx for the kit) but that'll have to come of again come cambelt time next year, so looks like you might have to bite the bullet and do the cambelt too (will save labour in the long run)

got £500 going spare? :(

Thanks again for the advice mate, It defo makes sence in the long run to get it all done at once. No I dont really have that money spare but if it will take that worry of my mind then its worth it.
Looks like Santas gona be busy for my present lmao;).

Thanks

Surely the cambelt wouldn't need to be done till 2010 or 112k. In which case save your money and get the aux belt and kit done as that is actually due anyway as it hasn't been done for 36k.

Yeah thats a fair point mate thats exactly what i thought but like I say ive got a recipt for 2005 around 40,000 that the cambelt was done but weather that was the tensioner etc i dont know.
I just dont want to risk it and might get it done for a piece of mind!

Plus if i do the auxbelt im half way there so i might aswell go all the way.

Thanks anyway mate.

The tensioners would have been done also as they come as part of a kit. If you want to do it for piece of mind then fair enough but its not essential.

The whining will be coming from the aux belt pulley. I had exactly the same problem and yours is bang on due at 36k since it was last done.

Maybe i will just get that done then!

Thanks.
