cam belts have a shelf life?

gonna buy one of someone thats had it lying about for the last year or so and prob fit it around december this year, or possibly mid next year to my car.

is there a shelf life or something that i should worry about on these? its a gates one.

yeah, but you could always just get another belt, about £25 approx

tensioner and pullies will be sound

rubber does have a life span (old crusty rubber band for example)

tyres have a "sell by date" 5years from manfacture

Also depends where it has been and will be kept untill fitting.... if its been in a fluctuating temp hot/cold environment then id say just buy a new belt.

so you need a new belt and a new idler! LOL i can sell you a kit complete (new) for not much more
