Cadburys Drumming Gorilla - in LEGO

This is my first attempt at LEGO photography. I know you see it a lot, but I wanted to have a bash at some myself - but with hopefully, producing some scenes that are a little different.

This is my first of many to come.

As this is my first time, I'd love to hear people's feedback - good and bad (just make it constructive please)!

I did a full write-up of this on my blog, complete with a rig shot:

Cheers guys!

Tom.

Cheers Matt!

It's too little DOF. :p

But yeah, you're right. I took it at 1.8 first time around and dropped it to 2.8 eventually. I wanted to really pick him out, as the drum kit stood a little too high for my liking.

I should've played with some different F-stops from that angle.

You need to do one of the Lego stories like on TalkPhotography - if you've seen those?

A guy basically does one image a day, pretty damn good & surprisingly an interesting read!

Nice pictures. I agree about the DOF though. You should try to find some drumsticks too for him. And then make a stop start animation with the music!

The post from above maybe?

Similar to that, but it's a lot better, I'll see if i can find it!

edit: here's quite a good one:

Love it! I like the simplicity of it. I actually like the second one, the shallow DoF adds something to it IMO :)

Second one is the best Tom as you don't have that tell tale line in the purple paper.

Heres an idea, keep the shallow depth of field but bring the speaker forward and try and position it so the symbol is out of focus as it then looks like he's just hit it and it has some movement!

Cheers guys.

I'll try that Brazo. I'll redo this when the sticks arrive.

Also guys - This only went and got a retweet from Cadbury's! :D

127,000 people...

I don't know what the retweet is buy well done!

Also get some eye contact with the monkey
I'll do you one, special. :p

I still literally have no idea what twitter is all about. 127,000 people have done what ?!
Basically, Cadbury's UK took my website link and re-posted it to the people that are interested in them and their business. That just happens to be 127,000 people. As a result, a few people from that 127,000 spoke about it, retweeted it themselves (meaning EVEN MORE saw it) and I basically got a tonne of website traffic.

You don't half bum people retweeting you :p

I swear I see it in every other post! ;)
The three times I've spoken about people retweeting me were all quite significant to me, as one was a TV news presenter, one was Draw Something and one was one of the UK's leading confectionery companies. Excuse me for getting a bit excited!

Being a fellow web person, who should know a little about SEO/traffic generation, I would have expected you to know better. Guess I gave you too much credit. :p

Haha, cool! Very creative mate :D
Cheers man. :D
