burning smell

hi all
i'm new on here
i've got a full fat 182 with 16k miles
sometimes i get a burning smell when i take it near the redline or just hold onto a gear.
anyone had similar

I sometimes get the same if i'm driving with real enthusiasm but i think its just the exhaust manifold working over time? Maybe wrong? Everything seems peachy tho under the bonnet!

I went the long way home after work yesterday which included a bit of thrashing and got a burning smell too! Smelt like burning wires or something...

The return pipe from which goes from the head (not sure of exact place) to the air feed pipe came loose on mine once and every so often oil would drip onto the manifold giving off a burning smell, might be worth checking.
