Bristol/Cardiff/SouthWest 172 Service

  172
Hey all,

Lurker here who needs some help. I'm due for the yearly service some recommendations would be great.

From scouring the forums I've found 3 main suggestions in Bristol:
S J Cook (official dealer)
CookSport
Gaz (cliolord) at an independent.

Update:
Danpl6 also coming highly rec'd

Unfortunately I was away last year when it needed doing so I sent my dad off to S J Cook. He came back feeling they were trying to rip him off. The final bill was in the region of £1500, I have no idea what was carried out now, doesn't seem to be an invoice in the car, so going to try and see if they have any records.
They also quoted £1200 for a replacement exhaust, I know they're expensive but come on! I'm not sure how accurate some of the pricing is as my dad isn't the youngest chap. Though that also makes me believe they could of tried it on a bit.

So basically looking for opinions on the above 3 and any other recommendations you may have?

All help is much appreciated!

Danpl6 on here has a unit over near street, he's very good and fairly priced.
Josh Cook seems to come pretty highly recommended too although ive not personally seen his work so thats why I have suggested Dan.

I'd PM them both for quotes as a starting point if I were you.

I have used the following people and can highly recommend them...

danlp6 (Glastonbury)
Gaz cliolord (Longwell green, Bristol)

I would also trust Cooksport as Josh is a proper good guy, although i've never had any work done by him.

I certainly wouldn't be taking a 10+ year old clio to a main dealer, that's asking for trouble.

Agreed on the main dealers, most of them have no one left working for them who really knows these cars well and have little success with them. And at 80 quid an hour or whatever, you don't want to be laying people to make wrong guesses and waste time and expensive new parts.

cough, sorry got to speak up but we as in SJ cooks dont rip you off we even offer discounts to sport owners and match prices of specialists.
we never try anything on as its simply not worth it.
if you speak to me or ring cooks they will tell you what was done and advised etc.

As said, Dan (Danlp6) and I have done a huge amount of work together - Dan's knowledge is 2nd to none, and he is very professional - as most of you know I am very particluar and I would trust Dan 100000000% to do anything on any of my cars.

Top top bloke and you have nothing to worry about using him :)

Hey LemonBobby,

Good to hear from someone at SJ. I sent an email in the other day, said someone from servicing dept would get back to me. So hopefully will find out what needed doing last time. As I said I wasn't directly involved, just what my dad reported back.

Been speaking to Dan just waiting to hear back from CookSport as he may be a bit closer to me.

Thanks all!
