brake check

  172
today i drove into a garage to get my brakes checked as they were making a bit of a clicky noise every so often..... after about £15 minutes the mechanic came out and said maam your car is very dangerous... both discs were cracked one of the calipers was jammed.......etc etc
in the end he gave me a quote for £860, to get it all fixed.... i could have cried. i am going to try source cheaper parts from somewhere because there is just no way i can afford that..... its 3months wages for me!!! (full time student and only work 11hours a week)

ideas...?

Having you on. Walk away and see someone who isn't a robbing c**t and that has a clue. Then go back and run over the guy that quoted you.

a good independent garage should easily be able to source and fit new front discs/pads, and free the caliper off for less than £200 i'd have thought (depends what's up with the caliper)

Can get a set of front pads and discs for £75 posted on ebay.

Peice of cake to fit.

LOL at 860

as DrRollos comment ....EBAY for pads and discs as for calipers have a look on ebay again loads of cars being split for parts or try ppl like clio spares ect

fitting them yourself will save you a lot of wedge to it really is an easy job about 2 hours work

sure there will be a guide on here somwhere if not can talk you through it

would save your self at least 600 sheets

Da

  Less
Yikes!

As stated though, all that can be rectified for £200~ if it even needs doing at all!

Hayley, was it a stealership you went to?
I had a problem like this ages ago, went to dealership and they told me i needed new brakes plus an exhaust, quote for £1800 just for parts, got it all done at the gods of GDi and Milltek for less than £500, £1300+ saving

  In between cars....
Just noticed your in Edinburgh, sure a couple local folk could change disks and pads for you if thats all you need

I went to a wheel specialist last year to get a price on rear discs & pads for MOT and they argued with me that no Clio's had discs/calipers on the rear.

I was like "follow me".....pointed...laughed and still got a really good price! :p

lol thats such a piss take. How are they justifying that price? If the calipers are just siezed they might need a new seal kit and a clean. As said, disc/pads easy to fit. Lots of guides in the guide section. Think they have seen a girl (no offence :)) and thought "kerching"!!
