Bloomin engine management light???! (brake pedal switch)

  182 FF
Ok in short, ive had my clio almost three years and in that time i have had it in many garages trying to fix a brake pedal switch problem that manifests itself through the engine management light and occasional limp home mode. Surprise surprise after months of not happening it has occurred again today, before I pay a garage loads of money for another pedal which was replaced about 9 months ago is there anything you can recommend I try?

And not from a 30 bob code reader either. Which garage has been replacing things? Have they used clip to diag the car?

depending where you are i'd go to a specialist or independant guy who uses CLIP, and it will tell you straight away. Seems a little strange the brake switch is causing limp mode.

my brother had that light on the dash and it was in limp mode i just undone all the electrical plugs in the engine and sprayed in wd40 and it hasnt happen since i think its been a year now.

I usually go to Bucks Renault and sorry its the accelerator pedal switch not the brake pedal. It comes up with track 1&2 on the reader usually. All i can think is replacing the ECU of ebay or going with another pedal unit or accelerator pedal switch. Sorry for the confusion. Any ideas?

Me, you'd be looking at £35 for the CLIP test and from there we go forwards. My normal rate is £30 an hour but I don't bill religously by the hour.

I would pop across to northampton but one of my recently replaced parts, either pedal unit or switch is under warranty at Bucks Renault.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
the brake pedal fault that comes up has NOTHING to do with the light coming on. I've not seen any clio that doesn't register the same fault. It's a non existant glitch in the matrix

How would one clean the throttle body sensor, and where is it exactly located? Figured i would give i a clean to see if it helps, today i cleaned up the fuse box to see if that made a difference, so next is the throttle body sensor.

You can't I'm afraid. To do so would me busting open the plastic casings which would invalidate any warranty you have. The problem is most likely wiring anyway and if you fancied bringing it to Nottingham I'd gladly have a look-see

WTF.... the lights have all gone out today. Could it be the heat...?! in terms of drying Z issue out.

Im booked in for diag at Bucks Renault on Friday, would you lot still go or leave it.

I would Mick although i thought you said Northampton. Nottinghams a bit far. If it goes again and i have no parts under warranty i will come up to Nottingham.

I always think diagnostics are worth while but it costs me nothing as I've got a CLIP in my workshop.

Moisture does play havock with things like this yes but if its a problem you're better to get it sorted now than in a few months time when its bound to be cold, wet and misserable

Well Mick today some of the lights have come back on. These include the Service Light and the Traction control light. Although the engine management light has stayed off. It was a dewey morning, i bet they go out again as it gets hotter.

I had a similar issue a few months back, EML light coming on and going into limp mode, got the usual pedal fault code, i did notice it was only happening when it was wet/raining etc, the root cause turned out to be the air recirculation flap was stuck in the open position letting in a lot of moisture to the pedal area, so i would suggest checking your re-circ flap is working ok.

To check just put your blowers on full blast and then press the re-circ button, you should hear/feel a bit of a difference in the air flow comming in, if no difference then its probably gubbed.

It can be accessed from 2 places, either by removing the driver side scuttle panel then the other little panel that is just clipped on under that you will see a piece of black plastic (It about 8 inches long if that) just slide it up/down (it kinda rotates right round) into a open/close position.
It can also be located from the drivers footwell area, on the right hand side just stick your head under and then stick yiour hands up into the gap, have a fiddle around and u will find it no probs.

I've heard a number of stories about there......I wouldn't go say it's a good idea to go there no matter what

Well well well, i have just gone and fiddled with the brake pedal switch and clutch switch. Reset both, and ..... The serv and traction lights have gone. They came back on at 5pm on the way home, so tomorrow when its cold if they come on my fiddling was for nowt. If they dont... I fixed it. I then went for a drive and found the cruise control no longer works although limiter does. Mmmm, i would put money on this being yet another brake pedal replacement.

Update. More adjustment of the brake pedal switch has just bought cruise control back to full operation. I now have no lights at all. But i still may claim a new throttle pedal as i think the engine management light problem isnt over.
