Big problem with fuel, need advice asap!!!

I have a 1.2 16v Clio 2002 with 91600 miles on the clock.

Basically i filled up with petrol yesterday evening and from then to now i've done 70miles and its used half a tank so around 140 - 160 miles. The toxic fume light flashes sometimes and the exhaust is making a terrible nose every time i try to accelerate and i also keep losing power during acceleration.

could it be a bad batch of fuel? i would try filling up with fuel from another station and see if it helps the problem, it will go someway to dilute the bad fuel that is already in there (if that is the problem)

have you changed or had any other problems with the car recently ?

I would look at -

CAT converter - Has it collapsed (Sounds like a broken Glass when you rattle it)
O2 sensors - Exhaust smelling very storngly of petrol
Coil pack & Leads

Coil pack and leads change this will sort it out.
