Being 30 and in a 182

Well, I'm 56, and have decided my phase 1 172 just doesn't cut the mustard any more.
Just not fast enough.
That's why I'm putting a Subaru Impreza drivetrain in it.
260BHP for starters, but will be 350 when I can afford the goodies!
Look for Rooby Clio 172 in the projects thread ;)

  Racing Blue 182 Cup
38 and love my 182 Cup. I've owned far more expensive cars from brand new but like others have said the money you lose driving out the forecourt is ridiculous. I was looking for a 197 when the 182 Cup came up, totally standard 12.5k miles and absolutely mint. I bought it for what it is and the condition its in. Great car end of.

  172 cup
I am 30 and drive a 172 cup and love it. Definately do not feel embaressed driving it, GF likes it as well although she isn't quite in tune with the french hatch thing. TBH I would still be driving my 1.3 s1 106 rallye if someone had not rear ended it a few years ago.

The way I see it cars like this are fun, honest and generally driven by people who try and avoid the BS?

Ye make sure you do that!:) At the end of the day what do women know about cars anyway...?!!:) This is my first Renaultsport and Ive always wanted a 182, now I've taken the plunge Im so glad I did, I've had far more expensive and more powerful cars but the 182 beats them hands down for me!!:)

*Ahem...!*

Rich... you love that car - jeez its thrown enough at you lately!
I think ive outgrown the clio (luckily the derv got written off on thursday!) but I'd still have another 182!

You sir are a legend. I'll keep my eye out for this.

  Looking for 182
26 (nearly 27) in a 182. Moving to Canada next year for 12 months so will likely get rid of it then, although I may well just stick it in storage for a year as it's probably not worth selling it now.

If I could afford something else I would buy it, but I can't.

43 here, and very recent owner...trouble is others just see 'a clio' and have no knowledge of what it is or why you drive it.....for some a car is image, for others transport so they won't understand you anyway.
Just enjoy the hell out of it, and who cares what others think.

Hey I'm 45 and love driving my 172,doesn't matter what age you are,i just wouldn't enjoy driving say a 1.5 diesel now plus it's better when you get older as your insurance is a lot cheaper, yippeeee. Lol! Thanks

Turned 40 last month and on my 5th Renaultsport Clio with the supercharged Petrol Blue 182. My first was when I was 34

  BG 182, R26
I'm 42 and the wife is 40. I have an R26 and the missus has a 182. We regularly swap cars so we can enjoy the best of both turbo and N/A cars. Neither of us have any plans to change cars for a long time yet as both cars put smiles on our faces for different reasons. :D

  Cio 172 Cup,Porsche
I only acquired my first hot hatch(172 Cup) at 64, almost have always owned sportscars since graduating,(Berkeley B105, Scimitar V6 GT,124Coupe,Porsche 924S since '86, Mini-Marcos,Sylva Leader, Vindicator Vulcan V8 since '98) and the Clio is one of the most fun of all of them on the road- the Porsche and the Vindicator are too well-mannered to safely explore their limits on the public road, but
I am sure that the 1600 cc Sylva with only 135bhp would have left the Clio for dead at the first roundabout it came to.

  Legacy GTB
I'm so glad I've seen this thread as at 36 and considering a clio 182 I was concerned with the boy racer/chav image that is unfortunately linked with these. ..

I love driving, often just go out, fill the tank and go get lost somewhere :) Unfortunately my current car doesn't really allow this as 320bhp/20mpg empties the tank to quickly for my liking :)

Making the move from a fast, sensible (ish) estate to a little French hot hatch is going to be interesting to say the least :)

  Clio 172, BMW 330ci
I'm glad to have found this thread also. I got my first 172 recently at the grand old age of 27. I thought I may have been too old for it but I don't mind so much now after seeing some of the ages of you guys!

I also have a e46 330ci. My 6 year old daughter said to me, after buying the clio, "Dad, why have you bought a boys car to go with your man car?"

I couldn't help but laugh!

I love the fast little clios and life is too short to be wondering what other people think. The people that judge you for driving 'boy racer car's will probably be judging from behind the wheel of a crappy little eco box or a boring diesel repmobile anyway ;)

  clio dci , ren8
That old chestnut had this with my ex your to old for a clio at 35 well kept the clio and got a new missus who likes the little clio even low I have fallen out with it at the mo lol ,

  Clio RS 200 Gordini
To be honest it would be strange if you weren't driving a car like that at 30, still technically you're prime.

I'm 41 and I love my 182. I couldn't give a monkeys what anyone says or thinks.

It's got to be the most fun car I've owned.

And since buying the Clio I've joined this club and met some of the best friends I've ever had.

If you're 30, and care what other people think about the car you drive, there's an issue.

These 1*2's are drivers cars through and through. If you like driving, then it doesn't really matter what age you are?

Every time I go out in my 182 it puts a smile on my face, (well, maybe not the day I bought it as it broke down....) But you know what I mean ; )

I'm 31.

  Fiesta ST3 & Astra
Im 36 and loving life in the clio , I've found it gets a few nods of approval from the " company car diesel crew " , when u need a break from the kids there's nothing better than filling it up, heading for a drive north and finding a good road to have a bit of spirited driving ! Hooning around the streets and doing the Maccy D cruise is were I shouldn't be and I leave that to those who have yet to have there hands slapped by Lothian and Borders finest ;)

  172 cup/Escort RST
Loving this thread! I'm 38, got my first renault sport clio (172 cup) this year and I love it. Age is just a number, to coin a well used phrase :)

  182cup & 172 racecar
I'm 50+ and would struggle to find a car that would tick all the boxes as the Clio does. Plus my missus would kill me if I sold it, as she drives it every day and loves it.

  phase 1 flamer 172
Well im a couple of months short of 60 and have the phase 1, if I didn't have it it would be a mk1 golf gti or a 205 gti, cars I have had in the past. They are my sort of car and would own them even if I had some money.

  Rs 200
44 , and have a 200, also have a 205 GTi in the garage, I get the same attention in both, dont mind the boy racer badge, but its when they think you have no money and your too poor to drive something that not german that pees me off.
