battery light on.

started the car up this morning and the battery light and stop light stayed illuminated. I gave it a rev and they both went out, thought nothing of it but then noticed after it started raining that my wipers seemed to be slow (if that makes sense?)
the fastest setting seemed to be like the first continuos wipe setting. I also tried the windows and they seemed to be going up and down slower. Any ideas?
I'm hoping its just the battery and not the alternator.

When my alternator went it was actually the wiring going to it, quite commen. Thats worth a check first. If not my bets are on the alternator :(

In the past I've replaced the little regulator box on the back... Carbon brushes wear and are a cheap and simple swap.. So long as the bearings are ok there isn't much need to replace the lot..

It cost me £12 to get one off ebay years ago and saved me £55 over the auto factors..

yeah same. Cant be arsed with it at the moment lol. It starts up and runs fine just the wipers are slow. I did jump start my bosses car off mine the other day.... Can that relate to anything?

mine failed on the way back from Oulton park. Never missed a beat all day. Pitch black outside lane, four up. Noticed the dimisters started to slow, then the windows started to act up. The lights went off, so at that point decided I should really get off the motorway lol. I managed to cruise to a stop on a slip road junction, game over.

Lol. I'm taking mine for a bit if a drive after top gear. See if the battery gets any charge into it. Have only potterd about the last few days so cant really say. Getting it checked tomorrow anyway.

Normally when a battery light stays lit its because the battery isn't getting charged.

Ah ok. Apart from the wipers, anything else playing up? Headlights ok?

No idea why I just didn't say that, ^

car is dead. Started up then started lighting up everything. Turned heaters up and abs came on, put wipers on and airbag light came on. Annoying this was I was halfway onto the road when it cut out so I had to get the jump leads out. Then realised I have the battery cover on so had to run and get the toolbox out. Then stalled it getting it back on the drive so had to do it again. Haha damn car.
is dead as a dodo now.

yep I guess so. Ah well, its on 52k and original alternator so it was to be expected.
Whats my options on buying one and getting it fitted?
I have mechanics in the family so does this need to be a specialist job or not?

Yeah, I just had a read about a few who have attempted it.
I think I might get one from renparts and see what I can get it fitted for.
