Battery earthing

On the battery negative the cable comes off to the battery tray but what earth's the battery tray ? Is it the bolts which hold the tray on or actually the tray itself ?

I have a earthing issue after fitting a gearbox to the 172.

The battery negative is earthed just above where the air filter hose connects, not to the battery tray.

Mine goes to the top of the battery tray

Ah right, both 182 and 172s I've owned have had the earth bolted just above the top intake hose so I recon yours isn't where it should be.

Tray should work providing the bolt and area are clean to give a good connection as the tray is bolted to the chassis but I'd rather easy directly to the classis

Thanks mate. Looks like mine has been bolted to a makeshift area as you're spot on after some image searching, should be near the headlight .
