Back on track

  Altea / PH2 172
Evening all, seems customary to make a first post.
Just picked up my first RenSport Clio 172 as a way of getting back into track days.
I have a somewhat chequered car history over the last 20 years starting with a ropey carb’d Peugeot 309, 2 Escort estates, a mk3 Mondeo TDCI, BMW 118d company car (crap), Focus TDCI estate, Octavia vRS TFSI running a hybrid turbo and 330 bhp/400 lbs ft, a ropey 2001 320d and now a Seat Altea diesel daily to complement the 172.
The Octavia saw a bit of track action but I was always nervous about bending it and not being able to drive it to work the following Monday, so the Clio has arrived to take on those duties.

No doubt I will be asking plenty of questions and starting a lengthy project thread, but in the meantime if Nybody recognises RY53 AYE, drop me a message.

Here’s some past and current photos

Welcome mate. Plenty of good guys and gals on here to give advice on the Clio and tracking it. Skoda looks interesting...

That was a great car - bought it in 2011 with 55k on it at a time when they were £3k less than the equivalent Golf GTi. Had a couple of stage 1 maps, followed by a 3” exhaust, uprated fuel pump and a stage 2+ map and 260-odd bhp. Then came the hybrid turbo, S3 injectors, bigger intercooler and a couple of other bits and it was 330bhp with the potential to take it to 360 with another map. It had a few handling upgrades, Porsche 4 pots, and seemed better geared than a GTi, which combined with the size made it feel very stable at very high speeds. Sadly it got keyed, so needed paint and a new door because the rear passenger door went rusty along the bottom. It needed a new set of tyres, a wheel refurb, timing belt and the chain that drives the oil pump, an injector service and inlet clean and it was getting very expensive so it was time to retire it..

Sounds good mate. Just stage 1 on mine but it doesn't half hold it's own on track for what it is. They really are underrated.

Here's mine last time out.
