annoying noise

every time i change from ist to 2nd i get a noise like metal hitting metal, and like wise when i go down a couple gears e.g 4th to 2nd, i was told it was the gear stick hitting the heat shield and that there was not much i could do about it they say its just a noise i will have to put up with. but its bloody annoying and i wonderd if any of you guys could help cheers!

im sure you could adjust the heatsheilds if that was the problem.
