alloys and tyres question

hiya,
your help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

im looking at getting either the OZ F1 Evo Cup or Superleggera on 16" rims for my 172 (kinda like the Cup better)

F1 Evo Cup

Superleggera MTS
http://www.ozracing.com/eng/car/pop_up.php?wheel=14U color=#0000ff http://www.ozracing.com/eng/car/pop_up.php?wheel=14/U

the question is; what would you recommend i wrap round them.....195/45 or 205/40 or 215/40?
by my calc the 215/40 are the best bet, but i have no idea how this width would affect the cars handling/driving?

also has anyone got Continental SportContact 2 on their motor and how do you rate them?

thanks

Ive got a mk1 172 with 205/45/16 Toyo Proxes F-08

The handling is great, grip is great, overall, great!:)

Go for the f1 evo cups, i dont like the supperleggeras that much myself. Also, wrap some toyo T1-S s wround em :) 205/45or40/16s ..

Stay away from the 215s they are too wide! The car will tram line badly.

The best tyre size would be 205/40R16 and not the 205/45R16

These are slightly less in diameter so should improve acceleration but reduce your top end slightly. But they should improve fuel consumption providing you dont drive at the top end all day!!

dunno....they look like em but with no oz markings probably an oem version maybe?

btw excuse my ignorance but whats "tram line"?

"tram line" is where the front wheels (steering) want to follow the camber/holes (etc) in the road there for the car doesnt exactly go where you want it to. Happens mainly with wider tyres!!

ahh...thanks for the explanation (y)

I have a lot of problems with that already with the standard tyres, the roads in frankfurt are sh*t!! plus i have the added problem of actually having trams in the city, the car fits real nice on the tracks (can get quite hairy at times :D)

*lol*
im english m8, been living here the last 3 years.
tho ill agree its a nasty sight :( makes you wanna run for you life!!

just think no speed limits....:devilish:

there should be no quibbles.....16" superlegs (id go 17 but thats me, ive got a 1.6 so not bothered as much bout handling as i would be with a 172!)

ive got toyo t1s 205/40/17, theyre damn good and not that expensive (50squids a corner i think)

superlegs definately though, theyre bloody amazing

all of this IMO of course!!!

mike

thanks again for your input :D
arent the superleggeras the standard alloys for the V6?

(long shot) anyone know the weight differance of between the 2? i cant seem to find the full specs on the site.

aha just found that tyre calc...

ive still got my eye on those 215/40....i think im being a bit stupid and should just stick with the 195/45s
