The robbing b******s didn't send me a renewal notice so I was without insurance for 2 weeks before I realised

They lied on the phone to me, saying that I could pay for two weeks then cancel and get money back for the leftover amount (which I couldn't, so was stuck with them for another year as they wanted MORE money for me to cancel)

The number of seats in my car on the form was always wrong (a crafty trick to get out of a payout?)

My excess on the form was different to what they said on the phone

GAP insurance, who they always recommended, said in one phone call that they did a £99 immobiliser then in a later phone call that they'd never done a £99 immobiliser

GAP fitted my immobiliser and fucked up my central locking, denied all knowledge of it, then said that they would come and look at it but it would cost £75 if it was found to be not their fault (which you could guarantee it wouldn't be... )

F(l)ux took so long to pay out a refund of £800+ on my brother's insurance that it took a letter from the solicitors to get it out of them

The money taking side of the business (sales) always answered quickly, but the paying out and customer service side of the business take forever to pick up.

I think that's about it....

Not just the one! lol

In theory cheap insurance is good, but I just get the feeling that generally they are a bit tight fisted when it comes to paying out....

If you've incurred costs because of their error its not your fault, if they pull anything like that again i would tell them your going to the FSA (you have an eligable complaint) and they will s***t themselves and should refund you.

Ive never had a problem with flux, been with them 6 years or so and had claims sorted, they fought my case when a guy lied, they handled stuff when a woman twatted into me at 70mph, couldn't have done any better imho.

i had my renewal with adrian flux at £660 but got a quote off privilege of £500 so flux quoted me £480 but with a higher excess. Im going to phone privilege to see if they can better that :)

The same could be said for many insurance companies, not just Adrian Flux. They are a business after all and there to make money.
The fact is they are all regulated by the FSA which means there is a code of conduct and if they fail you have somebody to (hopefully) put it right.

I don't see why you should pay more for the chance of a quick settlement from a 'big name', each claim is unique and genrally the smaller 'specialist' insurers are part of the same group owned by one of the big names anyway!

Flux came up trumps for me this year, but I will have another ring round and go with the cheapest next year regardless.
