Adrian Flux win again.

  Clio 197 RB
Renewal time again, got a renewal quite from Adrian Flux of £595.

Obviously did a bit of shopping around with the usual suspects Brentacre, Sky and Greenlight etc.

They all managed to get just above the £400 mark.

Adrian Flux managed to sort me out with an amazing price of £385. Such a good price!

So you're happy they tried to charge you £200 more than they needed to?!
Worst insurance I've ever dealt with!

Excatly my thoughts mate. If they can do £383 in the first place why send the price out at £595. If the customer had of just renewed they would of paid £190 more than needed.

Why would you reward that with your business.

I'm with flux and they sent me through a quote from the same underwriter that was £200 more than a renewal quote with a different underwriter.

I think it's a company you need to renew a quote with over the phone to get the best out of them.

3 years been with them and always the cheapest, £460 with all mods declared, I'm 23 and got 5 years NCB 6 years driving.

No one else got even close!

Yes mate we are open today but unfortunately we dont quote BMW's we specialise in hot hatches and the small number of BMWs we have insured have been really bad on claims so our udnerwriters arent looking to quote at the moment.

OK no probs, will give you a shout on the V6 next time that flies around then.
How are you on classic policies? 89 XJS V12 for a 25 year old?

Classic policies arent really our thing. We specialise in the modified hot hatches but the V6 definately will be.

If you are doing 3k miles or less in the XJS we can have a look on a low mileage normal policy but if you can get an out and out classic car for it that would be the cheapest option.

Cheers

They got me the cheapest quote out of all the companies I phoned.
Most insurance companies send you a higher renewal price hoping that you just let it auto renew and there are plenty of people that do it.

Yep 3 years in a row they have been the cheapest for me as well Dan, all Mods declared for me.

Ok no probe will give you a shout on Clio renewal.
Currently got the Jag on a classic, 1500 miles a year, agreed value for £180 which I didn't think was too bad - suppose it can't really get much cheaper thinking about it!

It does annoy me the flux do that every year. They always get an angry phone call and then quote cheaper.

Never had to claim so can't comment on their service but money talks and I think most companies will try and get away with a high renewal to catch the lazy peps out. After all these comparison sites wouldn't exist if every customer was always given the cheapest possible quote.

Adrian flux were the best for me too. Greenlight wouldn't even tell me the price as it was higher than what I had been quoted elsewhere.

Once I went with flux and cancelled the renewal with Elephant, Elephant told me they had a £100 discount "in the notes" that could have given me. Every insurance company does it, excluding greenlight obviously.

Note I required business use, which is why greenlight couldn't get near.

Flux were great cost wise, but god forbid you have to make a claim through them... You will then see why it's cheap.

I understand why they raise the price for renewal tbh as it catches out lazy people and gifts the people who can be bothered looking after their money

Yes, that's the norm in today's market of insurance.

However it is f**king AWFUL customer service IMO.

You would be livid if you had to call every last company you have a renewing contract with to squeeze the best price out of them. I have no doubt this will change over the next 5 years. All it takes is a few decent insurance companies that aren't out to fleece you and the others will have to follow suit or they'll lose their market share.

As a customer of theirs can you give me the quick and dirty anecdotes? They were exceptionally cheap for me on the MX5. Concerned a little now!

In reality all companies are likely to under deliver on occasion. These are the times you will hear customers being more vocal.

Insurance companies are regulated by the FCA and as such are required to adhere to certain behaviours. If these are not met they can get fined and stopped from trading.

Worst case scenario with a claim you will have to write a few letters and get a delayed claim. They literally cannot rip you off.

If you think it's worth the hundred quid a year extra to save yourself any potential hassle (not to say there are any guarantees that you'd get a different service elsewhere) then by all means pay.

No, whatever is cheapest I go for!

Was just checking whether I'd missed out on some horror stories.

Yes me too.

If people would rather ramble on a forum about bad service with their insurer instead of constructing a well written letter to the insurer's complaints team and subsequently the ombudsman then who's to blame?

(Note I do not know the details behind the above references, but insurers literally cannot screw you over providing you abide by Ts & Cs as the FCA will bum them if they do).

I actually went via FSA due to the shambles created.

Promised paperwork not sent, 6 months for doc's. In this time accident occurred, claimed I wasn't insured with them despite proof of payment.

All resolved by FSA who upheld complaint.

They may have changed as this was some 6 years ago. Once bitten twice shy.

Flux get a thumbs up from me, used them for my ep3 since I've had it.

At least they insure L and M postcodes! None of the forum advertised ones will.

Swiftcover for my e36 - super cheap.

Glad to hear it was resolved.

It's a double edge sword really, if you discount the cheap companies and stick with reputable ones, you'll have piece of mind (something I'd probably want with a high end car). But if you never claim, you'll be better off with the cheap ones.

Personally I'd rather get the cheapest premium year on year and deal with it the hard way if an insurer doesn't play ball. If you record your time spent on dealing with a company correctly you can get reimbursed for a proportion of that via a complaint too (with or without the FCA). That said I've never had to make a car claim and don't need my car for my living.

Just to confirm Greenlight dont operate like that. We always give our best price straight off the bat.....Also with our renewals we do not increase the price year on year, if a customer remains claim free it will actually come down each year.

Personally ss a consumer I wouldnt go back to a company that tried to charge me more in the first place so we dont treat our customers like that. Its like if i was looking to buy a Panasonic Plasma TV the first shop in the high street has it priced at £800 i walk the length of the high street and manage to get it for £600....I certainly wouldnt go all the way back to first shop to get them to match £600 I give my business to the company that gave me the best possible price straight away.

I won't ever use Flux again. Changing cars is a nightmare should you need to.

Agree with this. Trying to switch from my current car to a new potential toy is a nightmare and every price they give you extra seems ridiculous!

Another that agrees with this. They come up with some mental costs if you try and change a motor.

Hi Neil,

I was actually agreeing with your previous comments in my rambling posts! I haven't actually tried Greenlight and have just stayed with Admiral as they've always been cheapest in the market for me. I'll be sure to try you guys next year.

To go with this too, Brentacre also wanted silly money (more than the cost of taking out a NEW policy in full) when I changed cars.

I've used Brentacre in the past with 3 out of the 4 years of my Clio being with them, but I was extremely disappointed this time.

phoned them for a quote years ago, next thing i get paperwork in the post, phoned them to tell them i only asked for a quote, then threatening letters because i haven't paid for my policy. bunch of idiots, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I could understand maybe an extra £50/60 as that's quite easy to knock off, but to know 30% off the renewal quote straight away just stinks of s**t to me. How do they explain being able to give such a big discount just because someone else has given a cheaper price?

I know in my line of work if someone questioned the price and I dropped it by 30% they wouldn't be back with us for a very long time, and only if they were desperate. I had a few run ins with them, but back when I was 19 with a 182 no-one else would deal with me so I was stuck.

Currently got 2 policies with Sky and they are very good with customer service, small alterations, price first time round, additional options on policies, waiting times on phones etc, best company I've ever dealt with insurance wise. Hoping to give Greenlight a go however as have heard good things.

That's the difficulty with going with a specialist though- Clio's they might be able to insure cheaply. move away from that marque and you lose the benefits.

I have cars with Brentacre in the past, been good service, people on the phone actually seemed to have an interest in cars and prices were competitive. Ring up this time for the new car and find out they have really gone downhill. Guy was plain rude and didn't even know what the car was (he kept trying to tell me the M135i was a 2 door coupe???, and then he said it wasn't on their system). Thought Brentacre we supposed to be specialist car insurers. Ah well, at least I know not to waste my time next year, or in the future ever.
