About to buy a 182

  R26 230
After 4 years and 3 cars since my original 1.2 clio I am about to buy a 55 182 with both cup packs with 26k miles on it.

Few questions, I am trading in a 55 zetec s (£4.6k) and £2k for it, does this seem like a good price, or if anything does it seem a bit cheap?

And what kind of mpg, are you all getting?

Thanks

Matt

Seems pretty decent to me, to be honest. Main thing is that you are happy with the deal.

MPG? I get about 34 mpg normally (mostly driving on a roads/motorways) but have got down to 12 mpg before! It depends how and where you drive it.

Yeah mine is pre face lift, but 2 owners and extremely good condition 40k on clock if you interested!?

Thats ok then, cause been looking for a while and seems a bit cheap, was a bit worried!

Have a look on ph/autotrader to compare. Obviously getting one from a dealer is always going to be abit more expensive. The belts probably arn't due for another 6 months or so but it's an expensive job try and get it done with the deal.

I get on average 35-38mpg

Nah that's a good price for a pre-facelift trade in.

Get it done mate.

Either that or use it as a bargaining tool to get money off and get the work done by a trusted garage. I would get them done for peace of mind, also check condition of exhaust system and cat, mine were relaced around 3yrs/36k due to corrosion.

K yeah will check exhausts and maybe try get some money off for cambelt. How expensive is this job? We talking couple hundred?

Thanks again

JMS have prices up in the traders section. Wild variations seem common from place to place and most Renault techs hate working on 1*2s as they are a bit of a pig. I'd go with an independant specialist:cool:

WELCOME TO the world of the 182's haha just pray nothing goes wrong or like me your end up forking out 2k to fix lol

cant beat the rush they give you thou when ripping thru the bends

That £380 is for the cambelt change service - 70k or every 5 years. The aux belt servce may as well be done while your at it, if not it's every 36k/3yrs. They are the only expensive services.

So still got a bit of time, may not be able to get any moneys off if theres another 10k miles till needs changing will try blag it as much as poss mind!

Wanted a 182 for years, was tempted by corsa vxr, but extra cost just doesn't seem worth it. Plus cousins got a 197 so will be good to se if its actually any better!

Yeah you've got a while but it's going to need doing soon, so you need to budget for it, I'd still use it as a bargaining tool, as would I the price of the cat (mine was £987 on last day of warranty thankyou Renault) if it fails. Also what tyres is the car on? I'd try and get a new pair of fronts thrown in if it is on PE2's as most dealers will just rotate the tyres if the fronts are worn!

Thanks Ben these are all things I need to be looking at! Unfortunately (another worry of mine) it is not an established dealer by the look of it more like a backstreet dealer, which is why I was cautious to begin with.

JMS are cheap (decent though) - Renault Hatfield quoted me well over £700 when I spoke to them a little while ago for the full cambelt + aux belt service. Mark Fish was about £600 with genuine parts, mine is due early next year and I'm going to use him.

It's every 72K or 5 years for the cambelts, and every 36k or 3 years for the aux belts, which ever comes first.

Sounds like a good price to me, and is similar to what I paid for my 05 plate back in February.

As for MPG I have had everything from 12 to a smidge over 50, but with normal A road driving in traffic it averages around the 35-40. Other thing I have noticed is that using Super Plus or what ever you want to call it I get enough more MPG's to warrant the added cost and it's better for the engine to.
